Who the heck needs a "recovery suite"? What's wrong with a normal hospital room like everyone else gets after something serious like open-heart surgery?

...since you aren't allowed to give birth without a cesarean at Cedars.

The story indicates otherwise: The unnamed mother had the misfortune of going into labor at the same time as Roberts

To be fair, did Roberts demand the suite knowing it was already booked, or did the hospital give it to her to suck up to Ms. Roberts?

Yes, lets be fair.... and also realize that the birth of twins should be a higher-order delivery than most, requiring she be given some priority over normal births, and that it could be that this special suite was also the most secure from unwanted paparazzi. Most new moms don't have a monster mobs with cameras chasing them.

I'm not old, but I love old movies and I love Judy Holliday. They don't make them like her anymore.

Hold up. I can't stand Roberts either, but could the bump have anything to do with the fact that she was delivering twins? Also, few women look anything but angry and in pain while they are in labor.

Whew! Now that I've defended her, allow me to trash her. This woman has a head the size of a softball. That's why her ugly slash of a mouth looks so huge.

Also, PHINNAEUS WALER?
Question: Why do Hollywood types insist on giving their kids names that are sure to elicit schoolyard beatings on a regular basis?
Answer: To draw attention to themselves, not their children.

"Oh," says Mrs. Dumba$$ while lunching with her friends, "Did you hear what Julia Roberts named her twins? Hazel and Phinnaeus!! I wish I had the nerve to give my children such interesting names!"

So, who are the ladies talking about? The children? No. Julia. Just the way she wanted it.

If the hospital caved and gave her the celebrity treatment, it's likely because they're scared to death of the power and money that can blacken the eye of the institution.

It's a smart doc that turns the celebrity away -- "Find another doc". Let them find their medical care in Europe or Cuba.

I remember shortly after Rush's hearing problems people on FR were angry at the terrible medical personnel who had taken care of him. Then there were stories that Rush's problems with drugs had possibly brought on his hearing loss--and they blamed the docs for that, too.

Stay away from celebrities.

IMHO, the hospital gave Roberts whatever she wanted. She would not even have to ask. It would just be assumed that she would get the best treatment and the best room. Those babies are going to go out the front door wrapped in Cedars' blankets, and that photo alone is worth more than their advertising budget for the next twenty years.

Obstetrics is a competitive area for hospitals. A lot of patients shop around. It would be nice if average people realized that the hospital that caters to the rich and famous is probably going to treat them like dirt, but I am not going to hold my breath and wait for folks to figure that one out.

If you're in a restaurant and Leonardo DiCaprio has five waiters in attendance, it means you're going to have to wait an hour before somebody gets 'round to bringing you a cup of coffee. Same principle.

we need to stay away from her movies and show her what we think of her then.

That is so unfair to the woman who booked the room months in advance.

I hope the compensate that woman and her children, like everything FREE OF CHARGE...

How about Julia R. picking up that families charges for the inconvenience.

She has a husband.

Yup, she does. And he had a wife.

What a class act that Julia Roberts is. I give this marriage five years. Any takers?

Yes, it is just so unfair that Julia Roberts would have an emergency cesarean section to deliver her twins two months premature at 3:00AM on a Sunday morning.

By the way, who books a room at 3AM on a Sunday morning to deliver? Something is not right with this story.

To be fair, did Roberts demand the suite knowing it was already booked, or did the hospital give it to her to suck up to Ms. Roberts?

Or also to avoid disruption to the hospital operations and other patients because of the reporters, etc.

Not that I like the woman a bit...but I do want to be fair, also.

So true! If you've seen Oceans 12 (possible spoiler if you haven't), the scene at the end says it all. 'Tess' pretends to be Julia Roberts to get the royal welcome at the Italian museum, despite security issues. They go all out with fresh flowers and greeters, etc., while the hoi polloi waits outside in a long line to be screened.

Yes, I saw Oceans 12. We had considered boycotting it, but Pres Bush won, and we had been looking forward to it. It wasn't as good as Oceans 11, imho. And the parts where Clooney is at the Italian villa, well it was art imitating life, because of the villa he 'bought' from Kerry (aka Kerry unloading wealth so he can try to appear like the common man).

unless you and your OB decide on an induction day months in advance, how do you book anything to do with childbirth months in advance?
