NASCAR Free Republic Fantasy League - 2005

Posted on 01/13/2005 5:16:04 AM PST by steveegg

They're testing in Daytona, and Yahoo has opened the doors to the home of the Free Republic Fantasy League. As the 2004 champ (by a fender over WestCoastGal's JuniorsDreamTeam), one of my duties is to get the tires rolling, so I have.

You'll need a Yahoo ID (because they run it), then head here and sign up. The league ID is 1468, and the password is freepers.

During his press conference yesterday Jr was talking about testing and qualifying. He said that they are testing for qualifying and for the race, but without the draft it's hard to tell. They taped up the grill but that shoots all the air over the car which then hits the rear spoiler.

He said you gotta deal with the air one way or the other.

Here it is, he says it better than me.....

"I'm pretty happy. I anticipated that we might struggle a little bit in qualifying. I think we'll draft fine and race well. I don't know why but I thought that we might not qualify well, but we might. It's still a long way to go. We really don't have the car tied down or in the proper trim. We've got a lot of tape on the grille but that didn't seem to do much. When you tape the grille off, a lot of the air that you keep from going in the radiator goes over the roof and hit the blades so, you get slowed down by that air one way or another. I'm pretty happy. From the look of the cars we have together I'm happy. The craftsmanship is really good. I'll know what kind of team we have after we get done with this and then go to California and Las Vegas. It's hard to tell where we're at in the grand scheme from one end of the garage to the other."

I've gotta be one of the newest NASCAR fans around so if I do this I'll be happy to not embarrass myself.

But I don't see where to enter the league ID and password. Do I have to register myself first before I can choose what league I'm in?

OK, disregard that lest post. I've got myself registered as "Redneck on wheels" and now I guess I have to pick my drivers, right?

Well, as I said before, rookies won both years (WSGilcrest in 2003, me in 2004). You'll do just fine (as long as you show up for at least 33 races and have the other 3 set in stone before you take off on vacation :-)

I don't think its to cold and snowy here!
and I thought the strange stuff was in California...

Woman checks mail in the nude

OREM — A woman apparently felt the message she delivered to a post office would carry more weight if she were naked.
The 49-year-old Provo woman wore nothing but boots and eyeglasses when she strolled through the doors of the Mountain Shadow post office at 877 E. 1200 South at about 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
"After checking her mailbox, she stepped into the lobby long enough to tell everyone to repent," Orem police officer John Savage said.
The woman has a history of mental illness but not lewdness, Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said. Her bare-bones message delivered in memorable fashion, the woman left the post office and got into her car. Savage responded to the scene after a call to police was placed by a postal worker.
"Officer Savage stopped the woman as she was driving away from the post office for her next destination, wherever in the world that might have been, and took her into custody," Edwards said.

Can you add and drop drivers during the season, or are we stuck with those 8 drivers the whole year long?

I'm good to go, but forgot to ask you to add me to the NASCAR ping list. Please add me or let me know I have to tell to get on it. Thanks!

I'm a rural mail carrier and last week had a colleague tell me about an interesting incident from his day. He went to the door to get a signature for an express delivery. The woman who came to the door was wearing nothing but a very sheer negligee. At first she tried to hide behind the door, but then opened the door to sign for the delivery. He verified that she was a true blonde. Poor ol' guy is about 65 and just turned beet red when this all happened.

Thank you for pinging me. I've read the rules you so graciously posted; however, I'm more confused than when ordering the Saturday night special at a Chinese restaurant. My interest in Nascar is derived from my son's passion of the sport. He seems to know all things racing, so I'll have him give me a tutorial on the Fantasy League.

He is once again heading to Troy University for the weekend in the hope he runs into Junior. (The kid's got it bad.)

As long as a driver hasn't had 9 race-day starts, you can change drivers within each group to your heart's content. However, the 8 drivers you have on qualifying day are the 8 you choose from for race day.

Nope, it wasn't you. The kid caught on immediately. We've created the team "Trip Lite" and look foward to joining y'all.

Now SouthTexas you know we won't bump you too hard. Right steve? Bumping and drafting is ok on plate tracks and only on the straightaway, never going into the turn. ;-) I usually post a pic of my bumper so everyone knows when I'm behind them. It's red and has Monte Carlo on the front. Hopefully no dents to slow me down and lots of tape on the grill. lol
