After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
Well it starts Feb 6th and last 40 days. I'll let you know how it goes.
The oldest text of Matthew is the Shem-Tov Even Bohan Hebrew text from the first century. That text begins with Matthew chapter three. The Nativity story is missing.
The Marcion text of Luke published in 145 CE also starts with the John the Baptist story like the Gospels Mark and John with no Nativity story there either. The Codex Sinaiticus, written in the fifth century CE is absent of the Virgin Birth story as well, and that is the oldest complete bible in existence.
More and more it seems that the virgin birth myth was added at a later date.
By the way, what do you mean by J*sus having a human being?
Ok, sounds good. I'm just curious mostly if your "pastor:)" or whoever is teaching the class can come up with a better explanation then I've been given, on the role/duties of pastors, why they think pastor and elder is the same, and why they believe they need a "head" pastor, when Christ is the head (IMO).

When clear text comes up "its forced" pick and choose you do and ignore the truth.

Remember that when you read Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 53! LOL
I fart in your general direction. :)

Well, ah...thank you for your interpretation. Reggie, where the heck are you?
Gen 24:16And the damsel [was] very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
From the Hebrew
1330 b@thuwlah {beth-oo-law'}
1) virgin
That verse in Genesis leaves no doubt about her technical virginity.
If that's all ya got then that's all ya got! :)
Well, who knows, maybe there was some scroll with a verse using almah and some monk wrote 'virgin' in the margin so it would be inserted later. Wouldn't be the first time, you know a la lion/pierced. ;)
If I didn't believe something that you did, I really wouldn't care one way or the other about "details". Why is Mary being a virgin or not so important to you? I asked your opinion which you gave and my thank you, while kind of taken aback with your answer was sincere. I have heard a lot of theories but never that one. Why beat this to death though? We just disagree.
With no virgin birth, the truth comes out, that Joseph was his father, if not Joseph then, well who? Not that that really matters.
What is laughable is the amount of people that HAVE to HAVE that virgin birth myth. Without it, their beleif that Jesus is a god disappears, quickly. He wasn't a god, he was a man.
There are errors in the KJV, that's a FACT! The question is HOW MANY? Since most bibles fashion themselves after the KJV, I wonder how many perpetuate the errors?
Some of us merely wish for you to know the truth.
The truth according to ET? What you don't understand is that my salvation is by faith. The HS dwells within me and God shows me truth thru scripture with prayer. I don't have to worry about the meaning of is, what the monks did, mistakes by man etc. I believe my Bible inspired and my God greater than any of the above and that He has given me His inspired word.

The discussion between ha almah and b'tulah seems to be a wash, which is really unfortuante, because it just perpetuates the myth and allows for people to worship a man made/false god. (yikes)
I'll stay with scriptural facts over blind faith.
Yes, he gave you the 'inspired' word full of mistakes, how nice!
Not even close to true. Most even come from a different manuscript chain... and very few are "fashioned" after the KJV.
Ummm... I never claimed that it did. The expression "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" is figurative, not literal.
Well, let's see if you are right. Do you happen to know which ones come from a different chain? I'm going to go fins as many versions as I can. I'll use Psalms 22 and the deliberate insertion of pierced instead of lion as a prooftext.
Back in a bit.
"In context" it doesn't say anything about Mary at all.
