After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
Hi ET, thank you, I've survived for over 9 months now as a half man, and I'm still waiting to see why God has left me here when I never expected to see 50 years of age. My mother died when she was 47, my father at 50, and my Grandfather around 50 also. Ginny's Mother and Aunts and Father lived into their 90's.
I never thought I'd be around without her. ;-(

Y'all stopped debating theology and moved on to tertiary subjects. And I can only post so many cute pics of the kids.
Blame Malakhi
What's up with that? I knew he was taking off, but I didn't know the story behind it and now I can't find him.
In fact... my nic on TOS adds "still". :-) Of course, you remember that I mean "conservative" and I wouldn't expect that to ever change.
How are all the little rights. :-)
Thanks for asking. You know I never tire of showing them off. They're all doing quite well.
I turned 69 last Sep. If I remember correctly, you're a couple of years older.
Well - - - yes. More than a couple. You're just a young fella.
We are having the first real snowfall of the season. The first few are nice. After that I'd just as soon be in Florida. :-)
My sister in law lost her husband just over a year ago. He was in his late 50's/early 60's. Sometimes its hard to understand why.
Yes, daqar {daw-kar'} from Zechariah 12:10 is the word they would have used if they meant 'pierced' in psalm 22:16. Obviosuly it wasn't what they meant since they used a word that is always translated as 'lion' EXCEPT oddly, for that one, lone, single, verse.
From the Hebrew
kiy sebhâbhuniykelâbhiym `adhath merê`iym hiqqiyphuniy kâ'ariy yâdhay veraghlây
from the Hebrew
738 'ariy ar-ee' or (prolonged) earyeh {ar-yay'}; (in the sense of violence); a lion:--(young) lion, + pierce (from the margin).
1) lion
a) pictures or images of lions
daqar
1) to pierce, thrust through, pierce through
a) (Qal) to pierce, run through
b) (Niphal) to be pierced through
c) (Pual) pierced, riddled (participle)
Two very different words. ;)
Your children are adorable!
Thanks. They get it from their mother.

Hi ET. Ginny never had pneumonia, her Wegneres started out as a cold of flu, then they thought it was a sinus infection, then sinusitus, then acute sinusitis, then they had an MRI done and found her nasal passages were full of blood. Thats when I took her to ER, and after a week they diagnosed it as Wegneres Granulomatosis.
They put her on Cytoxan when they found the disease in her lungs, its Kemo Therapy like they use on Cancer patients. The problem is that Cytoxan makes the patient lose weight so they counter it with Prednisone to put weight back on. Body builders use it to give them muscle mass, but Ginny had a strong adverse reaction to it but the Doctors thought she had gone directly into dementia. Finally one of the older nurses took me aside and said she had been watching Ginny, and she was convinced she was not suffering from dementia, but from the Prednisone reaction. She said her husband had been on it for a week and they thought he had gone completely insane. It took over a month after they took him off of it before the side effects wore off.
No, I have never heard of it being used for gout. My Step Father gets gout at times but all he does is start eating caned cherries, like the kind they use for pie filling, and it always goes away. ????
They had better keep an eye on him and if he starts acting strange, they had better start backing the dosage down and get him off of it asap.
Are you sure they didnt say Cortisone, and not Prednizone?

ET, I dont doubt your sincerity on this matter, but I am just as sincere in my belief on the matter. You sincerely believe that the early Church did a little slight of hand in order to make a prophesy fit the crucifixion of Jesus. Ive read enough of the history of the early Church to agree they made a lot of mistakes, and some were calculated, but this in not one of them. The Apostle John under inspiration of Gods Holy Spirit read the Old Testament the same way we do today, he understood the prophesies were about Jesus being pierced, and thats how he wrote it in Greek. John 19:37, and then in Revelations 1:7. These are the same Strong Number 3572, meaning pierced.
Since John had no access to a Greek Bible, and no possible way to change a word from the Hebrew Scriptures without being condemned by all the Jews who made up the early church, he must have taken the prophesies from the Hebrew text that were in use at the time.
Do I believe the Hebrew scholars of that time after Christ changed the Holy writings? No, not intentionally, but as firmly as they believed that Jesus was not the Mesiah, when they came on a word that could possibly go either way, and there were so many side notes and comments on it that it was in question, it would be only natural for them to see exactly what they believed in their hearts.
This comes from your own Jewish writings.
Tikkune Soferin
Prior to the year 400BC, the only Hebrew canon of books Israel had, was the four books of the Torah. While in captivity in Egypt, the king of Alexandria Egypt, Ptolemy Philadelphia decided to finance the Hebrews in translating, and canonizing the Hebrew books into Greek, since Hebrew was becoming a lost language to the average Hebrew.
When the Septuagint was completed, it was the first time the Hebrew writings had been canonized and it was all because of a Gentile king.
There was no such person as Jesus Christ, nor would there be for another 300 years, so the Hebrew scholars had no preconceived beliefs they had to allow for in their translations.
By the end of the first century, 70 years after Christianity began, there were many differing renditions of Hebrew scripture around, and it was for that reason a group called the Messorites took it upon themselves to develop and standardize the Hebrew text, and they called it the Hebrew: Massorah- Tradition Text.
Any changes from the older text came about at this time. The original manuscripts were the only true copies of what was actually said. All others were interpreted by men who had agendas, and a different understanding of what was scribed.
Druing this time there were guidelines set up for those who were translating, and one of the terms used was, TIKKUNE SOFERIN,which came to be around the year 200AD, and it gave the translators authority to change any scripture in order to Safeguard the unity of divine worship at Jerusalem.
It was no doubt when the differences began between the Massoretic text, and the Septuagint, remembering that the Hebrews that translated the older Hebrew text into Greek, had no religious ax to grind, or fulfilled prophesies of the Messiah they had to work around.
With the authority to change and make it all fit into their belief system, the writings, except the first four books, became their Old Testament commentary, to support their belief.
I will no longer argue beliefs with anyone, but I will give a serious answer as to what I believe.

I agree, those children are beautiful. If the looks of a mans children determined whether or not he was right or wrong, you'd be the rightest guy on these threads. Hahaha
JH :)
An Outsider in a small Texas town around Christmas time, saw a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. But one small feature was all wrong: the three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets
Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, he left. At a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town, he asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets.
She exploded into a rage, yelling, "You darn Yankees never read your Bibles!"
The Outsider assured her that he did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.
She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and riffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in the guys face she said, "See, it says right here, 'The three wise men came from afar.'"
JH :)
Ya still got us, old-timer. :o)
At last ... URRight. ;o)
I just couldn't resist such an open door shot at you. Hopefully Da Boys will take a few more shots at your team next week.
My mother was put on prednisone and chemo after being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig diesese. She was told she had 8 years to live. Then they started her on the drugs and she was dead in 10 days.

I was very depressed with their comeback yesterday... and I'm still holding on to the enjoyment of actually having a competitive rivalry again.
Thanks for reply. Sorry, I thought the lung stuff was pneumonia, but when you mentionioned the sinusitis, then I remembered that.
I don't like some of the medicines they want to shove at people. No, it was prednizone that they gave her husband. He began feeling poorly after a week and I think she made him stop taking it, even though the doctor told him to keep taking it.
The acid in the cherries is supposed to help aleviate gout. I told him to try that. I never heard of the pie filling working though. :) Usually its the tart black cherry juice that is recommended.
His gout got better just before they left (They go to Florida for the winter.)
There were different schools of thought back then and if I recall correctly, the Alexandrian Jews are the ones that made the Septuagint. Hebrew Rabbis only translated the first 5 books, the Pentateuch.
Since John had no access to a Greek Bible, and no possible way to change a word from the Hebrew Scriptures without being condemned by all the Jews who made up the early church, he must have taken the prophesies from the Hebrew text that were in use at the time.
Jhn 20:9
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
How do you explain them not having any knowledge of this, considering that the Hebrews were very scrupulous with the passing on of scripture orally, before it was written down? Seems to me that IF that prophecy had been in there, they would have known about it. But, they didn't. ???
But, whatever, I just remembered that I needed to check in today, since I don't go online every day.
That is terrible! Sometimes the seeming incompetence is just unbelievable. My husband's Aunt had a chest xray for pneumonia, she was dead in 6 months from lung cancer. They never saw it?? (shaking head) And she used to work at the hospital where it had been done?
Ive read the same thing.
Jhn 20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

They couldnt figure out that he was the Messiah, let alone that if they crucified him He would be resurrected in three days and three nights.
Jesus told the religious leaders of the time and His own disciples that the temple would be torn down and not one stone would be left standing on another and none of them comprehended what he was saying until after 70AD.
Much of scripture is written in a way that its not seen or understood until after the fact, then they slap their heads and say, why didnt I see that before?
If Satan had understood that by Jesus death and resurrection this would create the Christian New Testament church and offer salvation to mankind by simply believing on the Son of God, he would have never allowed the crucifixion.
It took the wise men from the east, non Jews to inform king Herod that the King of the Jews was born, and until then he didnt have a clue, then the chief priests and scribes were able to find it in the scriptures after the fact. Mt 2:1-6, Micah 5:2, Gen 49:10, Jer 23:5-6.
JH
Much like Nostradamus. ;)
wise men from the Greek
3097 magos mag'-os
1) a magus
a) the name given by the Babylonians (Chaldeans), Medes, Persians, and others, to the wise men, teachers, priests, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreters of dreams, augers, soothsayers, sorcerers etc.
b) the oriental wise men (astrologers) who, having discovered by the rising of a remarkable star that the Messiah had just been born, came to Jerusalem to worship him
c) a false prophet and sorcerer
Magi ma-gi n.pl., sing. -gus [magus, magician] Douay Bible the wise men who came bearing gifts to the infant Jesus. (source: Webster's New World Dictionary)
Deuteronomy 18
9 When thou art come into the land which YHWH thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one that useth divination, a soothsayer, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,
11 or a charmer, or one that consulteth a ghost or a familiar spirit, or a necromancer.
12 For whosoever doeth these things is an abomination unto YHWH; and because of these abominations YHWH thy God is driving them out from before thee.
YHWH forbid the interpretation of signs for this sort of predictive purpose. It would have been divination to interpret the appearance of stars as omens of extraordinary events, births of royalty, or even messiahs. Yet, we are to do that which YHWH forbids???
