After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

I had heard about the arrest of these four men, but not the details of the terror attacks they had been planning. Very disturbing.

Not much.. I called our city manager about sponsering a family. I got brushed off. Tomorrow I'm making a donation to the Salvation Army and I may try to drop some stuff off in Houston this weekend. We have surveyors in my hospital and I've been working 12-14 hr days so I'm behind schedule. I see that the "O" one thinking about jumping across. Is that near you?
The Salvation Army was both Ginny and my favorite charity because they serve both the physical and spiritual needs of those they help.
Hurricane Ophelia can't seem to make up her mind where she wants to go. I wouldn't be surprised if she circles around and comes back through central Florida.

Yeah. The Red Cross, while not arguing that they do some good work made me mad a long time ago. I also got in trouble years ago because of united way. No one should be pressured by their job and I asked in front of the group if they could guarentee that none of my money would be used towards abortion. My supervisor was not a happy camper.
To get the full effect, this should be read aloud. You will understand what 'tenjewberrymuds' means by the end of the conversation. This has been nominated for the best email of 2005.

That's hilarious! Thanks for helping me start my day with a great laugh.

Yeah, it was disappointing to see the Brewers get swept over the weekend by the Astros. ;o)
I was at the Packer game yesterday, with my son. It was his first NFL game. When the schedule came out, I picked this game because I figured, "they can't lose to the Browns, can they?" Despite the Packers awful play, it was still a fun day.
Sounds like fun. My wife was working last weekend, so I took Sarah by myself to the local stadium to watch the Jayhawks play. I was wise enough to know that bringing confetti to throw and retrieve repeatedly for any and no reason was a good distraction for a 4 year old.
Tomorrow at 10 ET is the debut of the ESPN show that has Butkis "coaching" one of the local squads. It might be worth a look.

Prayer request for Mike Solomon, a longtime member of our congregation, and of our brotherhood group. He suffered a fall from a horse on Sunday, sustaining serious injuries, and passed away this afternoon. May he rest in peace, and may God comfort his family in their loss.
Of course. How sad. Prayers for his family and friends.
I'm so sorry. What happened? What was he doing with the horse, do you know?
Becky
Move to higher ground, CD. Brownsville's not far from Rita's path.
If it was just me I would have took the horses and gone on vacation. As long as the nursing homes and hospitals are open ,Eddie and I are on call. I think we are going to be on the "good side" and should be ok. THanks for thinking about me though.
