After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
We did see three Fin whales swimming along but that is all they do. No leaping. No lunging. No spectacular shows.
The Humpbacks are the ones who put on a show. I actually think they are as interested in us as we are of them. To see a 50' whale come up alongside your boat and look you over with that massive eyeball is pretty exciting. We know they are intelligent creatures and they are processing some kind of thoughts when they look us over. I wonder what it is?
When the whale goes a little way upwind and "blows" covering us with his stinky spray is it on purpose? When you experience this you'll certainly know where the expression "whale breath" comes from. :)
I bet it's not on purpose to offend... They don't know they have bad breath :~D
Very cool experience you had! I haven't been around humpbacks.... one Grey whale in time, and then only because we heard that distinctive blow sound that can't be anything else, and looked out to see it rolling back under. It never surfaced again in sight.
Tell me more about where to find the whales though? The east coast? How far up would I have to go?
Were you in a boat when you took those pictures? EEEKKKKKK
Becky
I may be prejudiced but the best and closest to the scene Whale Watches leave from Gloucester, Mass. and Newburyport, Mass.
Gloucester is closer to the whales, has many more whale watching boats, and is an interesting old fishing port. Newburyport is a prettier location, on a beautiful river, with great shopping, but it takes about 1/2 hour longer to see the whales. You can't miss with either one.
I have listed a few web sites. Look them over.
Seven Seas Whale Watch - Gloucester(This is the one I was on when we got the pictures I sent you.)
Cape Ann Whale Watch - Gloucester Be sure to look at the photo's on this site.
Yankee Fleet Whale Watch - Gloucester
Newburyport Whale Watch - Newburyport. I have been on this one also and it is excellent.
You can go on Whale watches on boats from Provincetown, Boston, Lynn, Salem, a few places in New Hampshire but they all go to the same place and Gloucester is the closest.
Maybe I am prejudiced but for me it is either Gloucester or Newburyport.
The whales aren't interested in eating people. In fact they eat small fish and sand eels a few hundred pounds each swallow. If you fell into their mouth they might swalow you but it would be accidental. :)
When do you think is the best time of year to see them?
see #3506 Cape Ann. Look at your dolphins and whales!
Thanks for the invite Reggie. :-)
I had never noticed this particular scripture before yesterday. I had read through it-- but had never really considered the implication of what Paul was telling us about the end times and what had to happen first.
2 Thess 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Would someone tell me what this means to them, especially the last part of verse 7?
RS Version - For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.
NRS Version - For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but only until the one who now restrains it is removed.
The Amplified Bible - For the mystery of lawlessness (that hidden principal of rebellion against constituted authority) is already at work in the world, [but it is] restrained only until he who restrains is taken out of the way.
Who is it on the earth today who is preventing Satan from completely releasing his evil upon man?
Who is restraining him?
Jim H
I was thinking God, but more specific, who was left here with us? My footnotes suggest it is the Holy Spirit, who will be removed with the Rapture.
Hi Cindy, good to talk to you again, say hi to Ed for me.
That's what it looks like to me. If the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth, then all those who are believers must be taken also, so this has to be another time besides the resurrection
I just wondered what those who don't believe in the Rapture get out of this scripture.
Do you still have the horse?
My boy who lives here, owns a house up along the Florida bend area, and I'm going to venture up there next weekend. It'll be the first time away from here since Ginny died other then my trip to Big Sandy Texas to take my step Father back after the funeral.
Junior's having friends there, so it will be different being around people for a whole weekend. Wish me luck. Lol
Jim H
I have two horses now. I'm resting this weekend. Last week I was protesting at Crawford and I'm going back the 27th.
Please don't tell me your protesting with Mom Shehann, please dont.Lol
Okay, I'll bite, what are you protesting? :-)
Jim H
Oh please! lol. We decided not to protest her. She is her own worst enemy. We are just supporting the troops . I took Joshua with me last week. He waved flags and said he was supporting the troops and George Washington:') Sending you an "old hippies" link in a second.
Not really. There were several reports of funnel clouds in the area, but none near me.
"Friend", Reggie??? ;o)
OK? :)
