After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. I should add that the priest didn't seem to mind.
I'm sorry that your mother passed on. Funeral expenses are so high, I'm not surprised that more are going with cremation.

I know I'm gonna get buried. My point being that the priest didn't run up any doctrinal redflags to the family about cremation. I was hoping he would.

I am sooooooo envious. I would love to be a storm chaser. It drives Eddie crazy but my favorite channel is the weather channel. I can watch it all day long. So what's your assignment?
Basically how it works is that, when severe weather threatens, the spotter network is activated. They have volunteers all over who act as their eyes and ears on the ground. Sometimes spotters will confirm what radar indicates, other times they will report things radar doesn't pick up. About 2/3 of spotters are amateur radio users. The rest use an (800) number to call in reports to the NWS office.
Haven't seen you around much recently. How's the new job going?
Sound exciting. I really like what I'm doing but I have been very busy getting things set up. I was out of town last week for in-services. In Oct. I get to go to Palm Springs for a week. The pictures look like a fun place but should I be so happy about that?:')

I'm glad you get to do something that you have always wanted to do. I hope you never have to report dangerous weather in your area. I also hope that you never have to report any dangerous weather coming our way. :)

We've had two in our family in the past 6 months. One last week. She didn't even want a service or so we are told. Aunt Evie had alzheimers. I don't even know what is to be done with her ashes. Our brother in law passed away in October from lung cancer and he, too, was cremated. He wanted his ashes scattered over Signal mountain ??
I still don't see anything wrong in it. It takes up less space, and as you pointed out, its cheaper.
I think plenty of people have died in fires and that doesn't mean they cannot take part in the world to come.
Look at all the people that perished in the towers. Do you really think that they are exempt from the world to come because they were consumed by fire?

If they wanted to go to Heaven, then they shouldn't have gotten themselves burned up.
