The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

Of course he did. They all did.

Not so. Only the "super stars" did.

Will ya keep that crap on your side of the lake for a change?

Looks like the heaviest will probably go south of you, so you might get an inch or so. The band of heaviest snow is pretty narrow, but it is forecast to track right over us.

I planted some more stuff yesterday in my garden. 3 hostas, 2 types ornamental grasses, some candytuft, monkey grass down the sidewalk and some glad and calla lily blubs.

I'm envious! I have a good two months yet before I can do any serious planting.

That is interesting about your apple. Will any apple do that?

Theoretically yes. Ideally you'd probably want to use at least a few apples, to get several seeds, to make sure that at least a few germinate. I don't know how well apple trees do in your area, though. The summer heat might be too much for them.

Not all the goofy news stories come out of Wisconsin:

Judge refuses to let cousins marry

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A county judge refused to make an exception for two first cousins who want to marry, even though the couple assured the judge they don't want to have children.

Blair County Judge Jolene Kopriva on Thursday denied the marriage license application for first cousins Eleanor Amrhein, 46, and Donald W. Andrews Sr., 39, of Logan Township.

The couple say they have been together for several years, but Kopriva said state law bars first cousins from marrying because of an increased likelihood their children will have birth defects.

The couple petitioned for an exception after a court clerk rejected their license application earlier in the week. The couple told Kopriva their mothers are sisters.

Kopriva told the couple her ruling would not prevent them from being married in another state that permits it.

About half of the states allow first cousins to marry, according to stateline.org, a research site on state laws.

Kiss me, I'm Irish!

Everyone's Irish on St. Paddy's day. Are you still Irish today?

Yeah, that's what I meant. If you've heard of a guy for being a slugger, chances are he doped up. Once again, my definition of "all" is not all-inclusive, and you called me on it. ;-)

Y'all probably don't pronounce it the way I'm thinking. Boy, was I surprised when I heard the locals say "Manitowac."

There's two "L"s in "Hollidaysburg"? Well, I've learned something today.

About half? Ewww.

I'm an uncle again! 5 weeks early...

Isabella (middle name probably Marie, but they aren't sure yet) was born 5 weeks early, at 7:44 p.m. last night. She was 17.75 inches, and weighed 4.81 lbs. She is in good health, but they are going to keep her in the hospital for several days because she is so tiny.

What a pretty baby:) Isabella is a beautiful name.

I didn't mention it but I became a great aunt again about a month ago. Sophia was born about 3 wks early, but was not small. She is the miracle baby, remember, mom has one ovariey, an dad had a vasectomy, (and it is his baby).

She has an older brother and sister.

At times I'm simply being a pednat. At times I am picking on your absoloute use of absoloutes when you absoloutely weren't thinking in absoloute terms and you absoloutely expected us to read your mind.

We call that a "big baby." ;-)
