After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
That surprises me a bit, because the recent talk was about how they were going to finally be back at full strength for the tournament. Still, Pacific was nominally the higher seed, so a Pitt win would have been only a mild upset. I had Pitt beating Washington, so that costs me in the second round.
UW-Milwaukee wasn't simply a "homer" pick for me. There usually is a 5-12 upset, and UWM beat Purdue this year, and played tough against Kansas.
This will certainly quiet the talk about how "unjust" a 9 seed was for this team. Pitt had a basic flaw, and I don't know if it's coaching or personnel or both.
They were built to play in the paint thugball. And they could be very good at it, see the wins against BC, Syracuse, Connecticut.
But any team that could either hit a lot of threes and outside shots and, especially, press Pitt's offense and keep them from playing inside, could win. See Villanova and WVU.
The team also exhibited a lack of character at times, losing several games after getting big leads and relaxing.
And finally, shooting percentages tended to be attrocious. And no one can win without scoring.

Looks like four of us have Illinois picked to win it all, and two have North Carolina.
Thats understandable that they wouldn't give you full coverage if you're not a subscriber, but I would think either way they would contact emergency services in the case of an accident such as the airbags being deployed if your car was still in contact with Onstar. Even pay phones give you free 911. I personally find it a bit scary that they can follow your car around even if you don't want to be found. :)
Don't worry. They would never reveal that information to third parties, unless they are asked to. :o)
Looks like Cincinnati, barring a big comeback, is going to avoid an upset at the hands of Iowa. Oh well, I had Iowa losing to Kentucky in the second round anyway.

Very true. We play musical doors all the time. I let him out the front, hubby let's him in the back. Repeat every 5 minutes.
Cat logic also takes revenge upon its human, even if it isn't your fault.
Last fall one of our neighbors moved. The new people have a german shephard DOG! Didn't take long for our cat to meet the dog!
For about 2 weeks our cat wouldn't go out side and wouldn't use either of it's two litter boxes.
After having shampooed the carpet for the third time that week, I followed him around the house with a squirt gun (never had any luck with that being a deterrant), I picked him up, opened the front door and threw his sorry butt out the door, and nearly into the arms of the cable guy that was updating the cables in our area!
A while back there was an episode of Mythbusters where they used coka cola on steak to see if it really does tenderize meat and they determined that it did NOT.
It's not that we're totally lacking or anything, but you guys have a whole lot of those lyrical Indian place names up there.
(Query: Are all the people paranoid in "Outagamie"?)

My husband was born with a hole in his heart. It can be fixed, his was and he suffers no setbacks. Granted he doesn't play pro football!
LOL
Ok, you guys. McGwire doesn't want to give a direct answer regarding steroid use. Did he or didn't he?

I "think ~fingers crossin~ that we are done with freezing temps. I planted some more stuff yesterday in my garden. 3 hostas, 2 types ornamental grasses, some candytuft, monkey grass down the sidewalk and some glad and calla lily blubs.
That is interesting about your apple. Will any apple do that?

Too bad -- it's great fun. When they show up from the temp agency, I send them to the self-locking meat locker. 2 hours later, I get them and watch them thaw out next to the window.
;)
Oh, BTW, our temps are in the 60s during the day and 40s at night:). I've been out on horses all day. My daughter was here riding with me today.
Becky
LOL...took me awhile but now I'm LOL:)

Kiss me, I'm Irish!
