The Neverending Story

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)

My idea is better. You push the red button. If you get a response just say "I'm sorry, my 3 year old pushed the button".

Maybe I'll just break into a car at the mall. ;-)

Dave, if I'm not mistaken, Reggie just invited us over to his house and asked us to take a spin in his car. ;o)

Probably be OK if we drink his beer and tease his cat as well.

I'm certain you can find an appropriate car closer to home. All you have to look for is an OnStar antenna on a GM car more than one year old. The chances are about 10:1 that the subscription has lapsed.

Press the red button. Simple.

Awwww... looks like we're disinvited. :o(

Reggie, I might drink your beer, but I promise not to tease the cat. ;o)

Old Man Winter just doesn't want to let go this year. We have 3-5" of snow forecast for tonight into tomorrow morning.

And there I was yesterday shopping for garden tillers and seed. I suppose I'm gonna have to wait until the snow actually melts and the ground actually thaws.

In the meantime, I've been satisfying my gardening bug by starting plants indoors. The tomatoes I started from seed back in January are now about 4" tall, and I transplanted them last weekend into individual 4" pots. I also found a slightly shriveled Gala apple in a lonely corner of my refrigerator last weekend, cut it open, and found that one of the seeds inside had already germinated. (Apple seeds need to "winter over" in order to germinate. Being in a refrigerator for 6-8 weeks is sufficient cold to trigger germination.) I popped it into a 4" pot, tap root down. By yesterday morning, it was already sending up a stem out of the soil.

We're finally getting some seasonable weather. 47 today, 50 tomorrow. It occurred to me the other day that I've got about 4 weeks till I'll need to cut the grass.

Making lemons out of lenonade, it seems. If only you could do the same with the month old leftover spaghetti.

I have a lemon tree seedling. ;o)

My mother has a potted lemon tree that is a good 75-80 years old. Technically, it would qualify as a bonsai of the Chinese variety (they are larger than Japanese bonsai). Last year she took seeds from the lemons and put them in starter trays. Once they had germinated and gained some size, she potted them and gave them to friends and family. Mine is about 8" tall now. :o)

As Willie Wonka might say: "Strike that, reverse that."

I have a lemon tree seedling. ;o)

This will produce actual lemons or just tiny ones?

Now they put the lemon (and lime) right into the Coke, so there will be no more need for the actual fruit. You can make a Cuba Libre with only three ingedients.

Once it matures, actual lemons. My mother's tree produces huge lemons, much larger than what you find in the grocery store. And tart. Good for lemon meringue pie! :o)

If they could put grease drippings into the Coke, you wouldn't need actual bacon, either. ;o)

Try to imagine the likelihood of anyone ever putting that sentence together.

LOL!

At this point, the answer is "100%". ;o)

Alas, as ever, I cannot claim to be completely creative on this one. A google search turned up this:

Coca-Cola and wacky uses

Cook with Coca-Cola.
The Coca-Cola Consumer Information Center offers a free packet of recipes including a Mustard Herb Dressing (an Italian style salad dressing made with one-half cup of Coca-Cola), a Twin CheeseDip (requiring three-quarter cup of Coca-Cola and doubling as a sandwich filling), and Sweet-Sour Cabbage (using one-half cup of Coca-Cola and two tablespoons of bacon drippings).
We are mere pretenders in the shadow of the originality of Plato, Aristotle, Shakespeare, and the guys at Coca-Cola.

Now that you mention it, an old recipe for chipped ham barbecue sandwiches consists of a sauce made with a can of Coke and a bottle of ketchup.

("Chipped ham," of course, is a regional lunchmeat delicacy, brought to us by the Isaly's dairy store that originated the Klondike bar, now made in Green Bay.)

It appears Willie McGinest did break the Tedy Brusci "hole in the heart" story on the NFL Network. At the time it went right over my head.

The sports writers are all over themselves speculating on the "fix" for the hole and the chances of Tedy Brusci playing football again.

One supposed "cure" is to put him on a blood thinner. What the idiot sportswriter doesn't know is that a blood thinner leads to excessive bruising and bleeding from any injury, even an insignificant one. (Ask me, I know!) The last thing you want to do with a professional football player is to thin his blood. Better to just kill him outright.

On a positive note it appears that repairing the hole is a simple procedure and should not affect his professional carreer. Whether a 31 year old man with 3 SuperBowl rings, young children, and is financially set for life, wants to take the risk is another story. We'll see.

Funny how the Klondike bar caught on, while the "chipped ham" remained a regional ... ummm ... 'delicacy'.

I think he should retire. Everything else in his life is far more important than football.

It it's anything like "Chipped Beef" I'd go crazy over it.

One of my favorites is Creamed Chip Beef on toast, known in the military as "S**t on a shingle". I loved it then and I love it now.

He's a very bright person. I'm sure he'll make the right decision.

Some things are just too good to share with a larger audience.

It's not. It's a variation on the fatty pressed-ham lunchmeat product. The key is in the super-thin slicing. The rest of the country is just too impatient or incompetent to slice it properly.

Well, Pitt's out of the tournament. I could feel that coming when the headline this morning was about one of the players trashtalking about how the "Europeans and Californians" couldn't play tough like the East Coast boys.

So, after 4 games, you and I are tied for first with 3/4. We both picked Wisc-Milwaukee to upset.
