My name is Mary Katherine, and I reside in the state of Ohio. I am a registered Republican. I grew up in a small town with very strict parents, attend church every Sunday, and have generally tried to live a good and decent life. I have been married for 15 years, have 3 children, and I am a stay at home mother. I am personally opposed to abortion, I believe in small government, and I cheered when welfare was overhauled. I am personally opposed to gay marriage, and I deeply believe this country needs to do more about the divorce rate in this country. My father was a steel worker who didn't miss a day of work in 35 years. My mother was a housewife. I still visit them regularly even though they live 5 hours away from me.
I think if you met me on the street or at the supermarket we would probably like each other.
However, everyone on this board hates my guts. I voted for John Kerry, so, therefore, according to you, I am a pig with no values.
I come here, desperately trying to understand why that is.
If you haven't stopped reading by now, maybe I could explain the reasons for my vote.
I am a fiscal conservative. I find W's reckless spending troubling.
I believe in religious freedom in this country. So therefore, just because I personally oppose abortion, how can I expect every American who does not share my faith to abide by that as well?
I believe in the Constitution. Therefore, even though I oppose gay marriage, if the constitution affords gay Americans certain rights, who am I to deny them?
Finally, I do not believe the war in Iraq was executed in the appropriate way. I do not support it in its current form.
So there it is. You all hate me for only one reason - the vote I placed on November 2nd. My only hope is that someday, somehow, you could all have a little less hate for those who don't share your beliefs. Thank you for reading this.
I don't hate you...Hate is such a harsh word, I reserve it for those that really do wrong to me or my kids.
I think you need to re-examine your values and beliefs. If you are pro-life, then pro-choice ideology shouldn't fit into your beliefs...
If you are anti gay marriage (Pro keeping marriage a sacred institution between a man and a woman) then the gay movement should look to you exactly what it is...immoral...wrong!!
I don't believe you are a conservative...I believe you are a troll from DU! I know you can't answer me, as you have already been ZOTTED. That's ok...because I lurk at DU! I will read your comments there!
If you want a board that allows all political stands- try http://www.conservativeunderground.com I use the same name there if you want to debate me!
Retread troll, a couple times now
Of course not. I only associate with intelligent people. Have a nice day.
You're right... LOL.
retread!
:-)
Well, I personally oppose slavery, but hey, who am I to force my beliefs on others.Ya know? And even though I and most conservatives deeply believe that abortion is murder, nothing less, who are we to interfere with the "right" of women to murder their unborn babies, even seconds before it's born via the horrendous method known as "partial birth abortion"(I won't go into the gruesome details of the procedure here, they're easily available on the Internet) or to even oppose having our taxes help pay for such atrocity? sheesh, wouldn't want to "impose" any law that makes murder of unborn babies illegal, now would we? After all, just because "I" believe that murder, especially of the most defenseless humans,is unequivocally wrong, wouldn't want to "force" others not to commit that murder, even to not use my tax dollars to help pay for this murder. And don't tell me that my taxes pay for other things I neccessarily like-if they're not murder,it's apples and oranges.
And yes, I DO believe in capital punishment-that is punishment of the guilty, found guilty by a jury of their peers after a trial(ie,one of the foundations of our legal system),and not only as a "deterrant"-I believe in it as punishment. Some crimes are so horrendous that they deserve the perpetrator's life as justice-and I don't buy the argument that it's a worse punishment for them to be locked up until they die-they have no conscience, only an animal instinct for survival, and if they get to live,in their twisted minds they've still "gotten away with it".I can imagine the pleadings and compromises that some of heir victims may have begged for,if only they wouldn't be killed-and it did them no good. Let those physocopaths just die.
Why did you vote for a traitor?
You are very funny.
And hateful, too!
Yes, of you.
Hey, you were the one who wore the Sherman button to the Georgia picnic.
You hit the bee hive expect to get stung. Go play martyr elsewhere.
You can't ask for money for being honored! isn't the honor of being nominated enough? you brat! ;)
This is one of my favorite comments, so far.
...but I looked over their website, read a few of their reviews of movies I've seen, looked at their "About Us" page and their donor list, and nothing about them seems overwhelmingly freeperish to me, anyway. They don't condone censorship...and the tone of their movie reviews is unlike those I've seen on clearly Freepish sites.
You can't have anything too "freeperish" or "Freepish", now can you?
-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
I guess I got in on the ground floor of this particular ZOTting.
