Possible Scandal: Michael Moore Has Been Tipped Off in Advance that He'll Win the Prize for Favorite Film of 2004, Which He'll Accept from TV "President" Martin Sheen

Awardwatchers Wonder: Will Controversy Cause the FCC to Investigate the People's Choice Awardcast on CBS?

Oscarwatchers Wonder: Can "Fahrenheit's" Victory Bolster Its Chance to Win Best Picture at the Oscars?

NEW YORK CITY (Jan. 7, 2005, GoldDerby.com) -- George W. Bush may have been the American people's choice for President in 2004, but the People's Choice Award for the Favorite Film of 2004 will go to his political nemesis this Sunday night, GoldDerby.com has learned.

At the ceremony to be telecast Jan. 9, at 9 p.m. (EST) on CBS, director/writer Michael Moore will accept the prize bestowed upon "Fahrenheit 9/11" by TV "President" Martin Sheen, star of "The West Wing."

GoldDerby has learned that Moore was tipped off ahead of time that his film beat other nominees "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "The Incredibles," "Shrek 2" and "Spiderman 2." Apparently, that's why Moore mysteriously chose to ditch his earlier plan to attend this Sunday's gala dinner of the New York Film Critics Circle, which had planned to give him their award for Best Documentary, a victory announced on Dec. 13. Now rumor has it that Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein -- who organized "Fahrenheit 9/11's" indie patchwork distribution -- will attend the Roosevelt Hotel gala to accept on Moore's behalf.

Even though People's Choice Award winners usually pretend to be surprised when their names are announced as champs, the fact that CBS really tips them off early has always been a poorly kept secret in the media world and, strangely, has never become controversial. In 1968, the Golden Globes were kicked off NBC when the FCC accused the Hollywood Foreign Press Association of tipping off winners ahead of time and thus "misleading the public about the integrity of the awards process." The Globes' banishment lasted a long time: it was 9 years before its kudos gala returned to live TV.

This year the tip-off at the People's Choice Awards could become scandalous because it enables CBS and Michael Moore to stage a ratings-friendly stunt in primetime TV with "West Wing" "President" Martin Sheen that's politically embarrassing to real President Bush, who may be tempted to encourage the FCC to launch an investigation of this award's integrity.

Moore can benefit greatly from such a flashy TV stunt likely to be played often on TV newscasts. Many ballots are still out among Academy Award voters deciding nominees, which will be announced on January 25. Moore made the controversial decision not to enter "Fahrenheit 9/11" in the race for Best Documentary, instead pressing hard for a shot at Best Picture. No documentary has ever been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and none before "Fahrenheit" had made the lineup for Favorite Film at the People's Choice Awards.

This year the People's Choice nominees and categories were chosen by a new voting system involving a panel of 6,000 "entertainment enthusiasts from across the country," according to PCAvote.com. Winners were chosen by participates at the website, a less expensive decision-making process than the previous method of conducting a Gallup Poll, which gave a more scientifically accurate reflection of the American people's choices.

He signed up Nov. 2, 2004

I figure he/she probably has several other screennames/sign up dates etc. We have many "sleepers" that sign up, do not post for months then throw cr@p into the mix and run.

You can be sure that since he was banned, they very likely had good cause. I'll give you an example. Just 2 days ago or so, I saw a newbie that was banned and I check his In Forum page and the current article and saw nothing obvious as to why the poster was banned. The article seemed legit enough and definitely not a Trollish post at all. So I inquired via Freep mail and they said that he was adding vulgar and racist keywords on articles. So I replied back with a thank you for the info. When I hit send, I saw they had sent another Freep mail to me. That Freep mail was a copy/paste from the log they have of posters keyword adds. Some were VERY vulgar and VERY racist ("F" words, "N" words "Bush suc*s", etc.), and he deserved the ZOT.

"People's Choice" sounds like one of those generic food brands you find in a supermarket, like Topco or FoodClub, which would explain why Mikey will show up to receive it. When he gets the hunk of junk he'll be really disappointed, and the growls from his stomach will be so intense as to drown out his "We really won big in November, no matter what the right wing media say!" speech.

Seriously, there is a large faction of support in the country for that fat traitor.

BS! We need to make sure that the ratings for this alleged
"people's choice" awards show reflect what the American people REALLY
think of Mikey Mooreon, and his crockumentary.

The poster on this thread signed up on Nov. 2, 2004 - Election Day. I think he/she/it wanted to "rub it in", hence the ZOT. EDURIEE may have been a DU troll. The mods keep up with trolls quite well.

Well, Moore's film isn't a documentary; The Passion of the Christ indubitably ranked as the best documentary of 2004. Moore should win the "Most Obvious Traitor against these United States" award, for which he should suffer death, as proscribed by applicable law. As for "best picture," Moore's enemy propaganda clearly required several series of visual trickery, not that anyone actually should have seen it.

If The People are severely limited in their choice, how can it be called “The People’s Choice”?
If the People of the Democratic People's Republic of [North] Korea are so severely limited in their voting choices for the People's Congress, then why is it called a "Democratic People's Republic?"

These two questions have the same answer.

How can such a ceremony proceed when the tsunami happened so soon in time. How can a celebratory function that praises such inanity be sanctioned. There are those who have objected to the upcoming Inauguration, a national event; but, who will see no problem (or inconsistency) with this ceremony. In like fashion, should not the Oscars be canceled and all the monies that will be spent on that event sent to the various disaster relief organizations?
