A montage of far loony left reaction to today's Congressional electoral vote certification
1/6/05 | Numerous deluded/despondent Dems

Posted on 01/06/2005 6:58:16 PM PST by dukeman

Well, the Far Left had their little play today, their chance to howl on national TV about all of the fraud and theft on November 2nd. In the end, the Senate voted 74-1 and the House 267-31 to reject the certification challenge to Ohio's electoral votes. From my viewing (and I could be wrong), only C-SPAN covered the proceedings real time.

How did today's events play with the tin-foil hatters on DU? Here's a montage of varied reactions (different threads are divided by ------):

Even our guys say they will vote to certify - I don't get that

why not object that the electoral votes aren't valid because they don't represent all voters?

Makes you feel sick. They're so confused they look like fools because they are afraid to say Bush stole the election. anything short of that makes it look like a waste of time and the MSM is gonna have a field day with it.

I'm sick of this party.

Our democratic leaders except for one, are a bunch

of cowards. I can't stand it anymore. listen to them "in the senate" They didn't hear of any of the problems? Come on they don't want to hear about the problems. This just makes me mad. Why is it such an outreach belief that elections can be stolen?

Barbara Boxer should run for president in 2008 and Tubb for Vice president. They have my vote.

To quote a "real" president, Jeb Bartlett, "What's next?"

We know the election is going to be certified but we can not let these pseudo patriots think for a minute it is over. I'm tired of being thought of as a "few loonies" on the Internet, "spoilsports" or "whiners," they need to know that there are millions and millions of people who KNOW what they are doing and we aren't going away, giving up, moving one damn inch, they have a lot to answer for and NOW it is really going to get interesting.

We are organized, we have the data, we have the proof, I wanna kick some asses, so...

"What's next?"

One thing many have said that repugs do much better than dems is to parrot the party line in unison. Now the dems are doing great with this message: we believe Bush won, and we're not trying to change that.

It's too bad THIS is the issue they chose to get unified on!!

I am thrilled that we got here, but this is certainly not a debate and not even very constructive. It seems doubtful that even one problem that occurred in Ohio will even be addressed? It seems like, other than those directly involved with the challenge, everyone is just reading something that an aide handed to them when they walked in. [What a dope1]

No average citizen watching this would be persuaded in the least....I am not discounting the passion and hard work by the Black Caucus or Boxer's courage, but what was needed were blown up pictures of the brothers running ES&S and Diebolt, or those charts showing the difference of exit polls and 'adjusted' polls, or any verbal presentation approaching the energy and clarity that Randi Rhondes demonstrates regarding the fraud that took place. Democracy and Civil Rights were mortally wounded today.

10. We've been objecting to voting problems for FOUR FREAKING YEARS.

And barely one goddamned thing has been done. I have NO CONFIDENCE -- absoltely NONE -- that anyone is really going to do anything about this -- no matter what they said in that chamber today.

The Pukes have all the power. They're not going to do a damned thing, and they really don't care how they look to us.

I'm not going to stop fighting, of course. I'll write letters to whomever I think can do some good (my senators are Santorum and Specter, so I think I won't waste printer paper on them) -- but I have absolutely NO CONFIDENCE in the Congress to do one damned thing. And I have NO CONFIDENCE in the right-wing (that is to say mainstream) media to encourage them to do one damned thing.

But right now, I feel like crawling into a hole. Making myself as stupid as all the people who went to the polls believing that Saddam and the Iraqi insurgents caused 9/11. Watching "Who's Your Daddy" instead of C-Span. I won't do it, but I FEEL like doing it after today.

18. Discussed. In public. In the open. With no media even touching the story.

If a tree falls in the forest and the media aren't there to let the American people hear it ...?

Mark my words ... in 2008, voting problems will be even worse. The Pukes in power will have forestalled any reform whatsoever ... and they can do it. They. Are. In. Power. They don't have to do ANYTHING if they don't wanna. They are smug and self-righteous, and they don't believe for a minute that the voters are going to punish them for not doing anything.

Because as long as they support marriage between a man and a woman only, the voters will keep trooping to the polls and voting them back in. On defective machines.

I will be glad to eat my words .... THRILLED to eat my words if anything gets done on this issue. You can say "I told you so" over and over, and I'll take it like a woman.

Tell me why I should keep fighting. SO DEPRESSED.

Not that we here on DU didn't already know this, but having watched this evolve since election day, and seeing it culminate in this "just for show" debate which is covered NOWHERE in the mainstream media and will be ignored and dismissed after it takes place, I am so depressed about the system. What's the F'ing point of us all putting our heart and energy into fighting this? There is a complete control of power here, and we have none of it. I watch these guys, one after the other, say "sour grapes", "move on", "wild-eyed conspiracy theorists", and know that we won't get taken seriously. Our government has experienced a coup, and nobody cares but us in the minority, and they will not relenquish power. There will be no changes. There will be no reform. I feel it. These a**holes speaking now on the republican side invoke terrorism and "attacking the noble Americans who volunteered to work on this election". They make it seem like we are attacking Americans and encouraging terrorists, and as long as people continue to respond like sheep to these keywords, and our Democratic representatives don't retort with specifics to dismiss that those are the issues we are debating, we stand no chance. I can't watch it. I can't after today. My blood pressure will go through the roof.

Do any of you still believe we have the power to change this corrupt government? Tell me, why should I keep actively fighting? I am only getting enraged and depressed over the response to all our efforts. At this moment, I hear some b*tch state "The American people must be shaking their heads at this debate" and "these allegations are without merit". They keep repeating over and over that Bush won by 3 million votes, and that's why 100,000 don't matter. NOBODY questions whether Bush's margin is even true. They say that Bush couldn't have pulled off a massive fraud, as though we were claiming that the man himself was solely responsible, rather than a whole network of people, and probably without his involvement. I want to reach through the TV and smack these people. So, I will remove myself for at least a while after today. I can't take it. It's too personally upsetting. How do you all feel, as my only sense of community on this issue?

T.S. Eliot best expresses my feelings: "This is how the world ends; not with a bang, but with a whimper"

Grief stages: 1. Dehial; 2. Bargaining; 3. Anger; 4. Despair; 5. Acceptance.

The list of Senators that came out before this got a lot of us confused, here.

I'm still confused about that, honestly.

What about evidence?

I realize that it would have been unreasonable for Congress to overturn the election today. I wasn't expecting that.

But what I WAS expecting was more evidence. I thought maybe the Dems were in waiting, ready to spring lots of evidence of vote fraud in Ohio.

Instead, I heard lots of mention of "standing in line in the rain for hours." Not very convincing - as we realize that Repub voters stood in the same lines.

I heard the name Cuyahoga a few times. I also heard Dems mention (about twice) a county "where there were more votes than voters" - but that county was never named.

I would have used my five minutes to list evidence of vote fraud - instead of calling for electoral reform.

Think of the viewers who might not have heard about any of this yet. You talk about electoral reform - and the viewers don't know why. You list cases of vote fraud - and people will pay attention.

That's what I would have used this historic forum for.

It's a good thing they are voting no!

It solidifies the issue they were bringing to the forefront, voting rights!

Boxer had to vote yes as she brought the objection. If all other Democrats vote No, it solidifies the base of what the objection was all about.

Again, a brilliant move!

These folks are sick puppies. They actually believed this Democrat BS was gonna work!!! I'll bet Harry Reid, the Dem leader in the Senate just wishes that Barbara Boxer would disappear into the black hole she emerged from. The Dems are going down for a long time!!!

Amazing.

It is breathtakingly amazing indeed! They have no concept of how they appear because they reside almost exclusively within a small echo chamber of similarly deluded souls. The November 2nd election rocked their universe and today's spectacle couldn't have helped either. Hehehe!

I was scanning though the DU posts this afternoon as the House and Senate deliberations were playing out on C-SPAN. There are some angry folks who may actually leave their party altogether. My theory is that today's theater was for the benefit of the red meat, far left Dems. In essence, the Dem moderates threw them a bone. But it may have backfired since the tin-foil hatters quickly realized that it was all phony.

Yeah, the Jed Bartlett stuff really cracks me up, too. I rarely watch that show because it is so over-the-top slanted to the left with right-wing straw men as the foils. But there was an amusing moment at the beginning of this season. One of the staffers was at a car dealership looking at hybrid cars, when his eyes fall on a monster SUV. He can't resist, so he takes the SUV for a test drive. Unfortunately, he only moves about 10 feet before he crashes into a new hybrid car being picked up by its new liberal owners. To finish it off, he's recognized as a White House staffer and someone snaps a photo with a cellphone camera. The photo ends up on a blog site for all the pundits to see. I laughed heartily!

I'll quote from a DUmmy in italics interspersed with my comments.

Democrat 4 Ever (618 posts) Thu Jan-06-05 02:03 PM

To quote a "real" president, Jeb Bartlett, "What's next?"

The most powerful Dem in the country is a washed-up has-been actor playing president on TV.

How many showed up for their big protest in DC today? Did they even get three-hundred? They claim millions.

We are organized, we have the data, we have the proof, I wanna kick some asses, so...

Like the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (see below), the DUmmies are saying "come back and fight" after having all their limbs cut off. They are impotent and have only the ability to whine.

All the comedy writers in Hollywood combined couldn't write something this funny.

It's so over the top it's almost like a parody. I read every post and laughed harder and harder.

These people are so delusional and, as someone else here said, living in their own little echo chamber that it's almost so pathetic that it's not funny.

But on the other hand it is hillarious.

On a DU thread late ths evening they quoted a figure of 200 protesters. To their credit, they admitted this was pathetic. It really bugs them that they can't draw thousands into the streets a la the Uhkraine. They blame reality TV and other such pop distractions for this (there's an excuse for everything).

Thanks for posting this. Seeing their bitterness and resentment towards us always fills my heart with joy!

I think my favorite quote was:

"Yes!!!! I have one thing to say to the doubters: Oh, ye of little faith.

We ruined their party today and hurt their feelings.

Barbara Boxer for President!"

These idiots don't even realize that we enjoyed their party's little televised temper tantrum. I'm only disappointed that they didn't make bigger fools of themselves. I honestly wanted to see them try to drag it out longer.

They had a hot thread last night entitled "I Hate Republicans". It really spewed venom. I get mad about things from time to time, but I don't think I could sustain the level of anger and loathing required to be a left-wing loon. It must be exhausting for them!

They're starting to smell the coffee. The DU saps thought the population would hit the barricades en masse as a result of the vote certification. They think they're in Les Miserables. Here's from this morning:

If MSM coverage is any indication...

we will not be riding a surge of momentum to voter reform.

I just went to 9 MSM sites. The Election Challenge was only in the top 5--that's top 5!--in 2. Pathetic. Yesterday's hearing amounted to token resistence rather than the beginnings of a new movement for Election Reform.

Where's the bounce? We got NOTHIN. We went with a whimper and not a bang. No one barely noticed.

Public pressure? Angry voters? OUTRAGE? Nope.

4. No coverage because dems didn't fight

By stressing that they think Bush won on fairly, every dem defused the issue. Go back and watch the tapes and you will hear a distint tone of condecension FROM THE DEMS towards african-american voters. They spoke as if this issue is important to "them" and since they have no other voice it should brought up. The white dems were indulging the black voters, almost sarcastically.

Why on earth should the MSM cover that?

This is pathetic. They keep saying "It's not about overturning an election." If a person won through fraud, then they're not legitimate. I replaced my Kerry yard sign today

The new one says:

Prove there was no voter suppression
and on the flip side:
Prove there was no election fraud

Also covered up my Kerry bumper sticker with my DU bumper sticker.

Finally realized yesterday that there was no point fighting for him if he would not stand up for those who stood in line for him.

I have nothing against Sen. Kerry and I don't regret working on his campaign. But there's nothing to hang on to anymore.

dubyaD40web (493 posts) Fri Jan-07-05 11:54 AM

9. When I found out Kerry would be conceding I was desperate. I called the campaign office and played with the directory (ie punching in random letters until the directory gave me a name with a title that sounded important). The message gave Mr. X's cell number, which I promptly called.

I BEGGED him to not allow Kerry to concede because the election was surely rigged. He said he'd been with the Senator all morning, they'd been discussing it, the decision was made. Period. No surprise, no nothing.

The precincts reporting weren't all at 100% in states where a few thousand votes could have put him in the lead. I told them this, also. They wouldn't listen. I believe Kerry knew full well about the fraud and disenfranchisement. He just chose not to fight the Rove machine. Sad, since he promised us he would. Mr. X told me to keep my chin up. Right. [That is, keep your chin up so the blow will land cleanly]

My Kerry yard sign is still up, but will be replaced by something that stands the test of time, which Kerry does not.

Oh, how I wish Dean had gotten that nomination.

AmerDem (1000+ posts) Fri Jan-07-05 12:00 PM

5. After Kerry won the primary I phone banked and supported him 100%. I was very pissed he conceded on Nov. 3rd. I waited until yesterday to really rip in to him and I ended it all by having my name removed from his much tauted 3.5 million member e-mail list. There is an unsubscribe at the bottom of every e-mail but I'm sure it could be done through his site as well.

Norquist Nemesis (1000+ posts) Fri Jan-07-05 12:18 PM

10. Took off my bumper sticker about a week after Nov 2 with tears streaming. He wasn't my guy in the primary, and by the time it got to IL, it was a done deal. Still, I worked on his campaign canvassing, writing letters, putting yard signs all over, and poll watching. Hell! I even managed to convince hubby to get involved (and that's no small feat!)

I believe something went on with this election. *Dons tin foil hat* Not one single thing, but a whole bunch of little Republican cells working just like terrorists i.e. funded from above but working independently. If that's 'conspiracy', then so be it.

That Kerry conceded as he did was not what bothered me. It was that as volumes of acts suppressing the vote and virtually all 'irregularities' served in Bush's favor...Kerry said not a peep other than to ask for $$$. The DNC said rah rah siss boom bah, pat yourself on the back, be proud of what you did, and while your at it fill in the $$$ amount on our secure payment system.

I'll keep working locally as I had planned, thank you very much. But right now, I'm rooting for Dean to head the DNC. Hey, he gave us a spine and a voice during the run up and he won't stand down to the slimy Cons. He can do it again, IMHO.

17. The repubs are like virii

While we seem to work on a national scale, the repubs are insidious. They go into the little areas and infect everything around them. They do it by lying, overrunning and intimidating people. I'm surprized they haven't gone back to lynchings to keep the black vote out. (They probably have - would the corporate media ever report it?)
