Boy did Oklahoma look like crap!
There are always a few nutballs and people with axes to grind (and checks to cash). Even Babe Ruth and Ted Williams weren't unanimous selections to the Hall of Fame.
Where did Texas finish? And do the AP rankings really mean anything?
Given their pathetic performance I would question ranking Oklahoma ahead of Utah or Texas.
>> The Trojans became just the second team to go No. 1 wire-to-wire in The Associated Press Top 25, and the 10th team to repeat as national champs.<<
Translation:
2004-05 was only the second year that the AP correctly guessed the eventual national champion at the start of the season.
Way to go USC!
The Freepers posting on this board are too tough on Oklahoma. After all, doesn't California pay better than any other state?
As an Auburn grad ('75) who did his masters at USC ('82), it's great to be affiliated with both these teams.
The TROJANS are #1!!!
WAR EAGLE!!!
Utah deserved 3rd place.
Go Trojans! I still recall some media giants claiming that the Sooners would destroy USC and that West coast teams were nothing compared to those east of the big river. What hubris! Utah alone could beat any of them, including Auburn. But USC could beat all comers. Their defense was so amazingly effective that the Sooners looked like they gave up after the half.
Has anyone raised the "running up the score" critique of USC when - leading 48-10 with less than ten minutes to go - they went for it (succesfully) on 4th-and-2 from Oklahoma's 12-yard line, instead of kicking a field goal?
Just based on last nights game, you can't spell lOUsy without OU in it.
As far as a playoff system, who knows if it will ever happen. Maybe they could take the top 8, 16, or even 32 if they want to go bananas and start the playoffs in early December. I think USC was good enough last night to take on Auburn after the championship game was finished and would have beat them in the double header. I figured USC would win, but I didn't think it would be a blowout.
