The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We just opened a super Walmarts about 3 miles from my house. They were having a grande opening and the manager speaking to everyone in spanish over the PA. He didn't even both to repeat in English. I had just spent a 100 dollars and it made me mad. I'm going to be making a phone call tomorrow myself to him.

You know, this is the United States and we speak English here, I don't care how close to the border you are. That would have made me mad, too.

Oh wow, Starbucks. I've never been in there. I really enjoy Thai and asian foods. I particularly love to eat at Japanese steakhouses where the do exhibition cooking.

Whoah, you have CVS pharmacies? I thought that it was just an east thing. When I went to Kentucky and tried to find one, people looked at me like I had three heads. There are CVS's everywhere you turn here. That and Walgreens.

We've had a rash of bad service lately.

We grocery shop every Sun. after breakfast at Albertsons. About 3 wks ago, at the butchers case, there were 3 butchers, but only one was waiting on customers, the other two were doing nothing. I waited about 10 minutes. I was pretty aggravated, so I filled out a complaint card.

I got a call a week later from the manager of the butcher dept. He was very nice, assured me that would not happen again, and told me to check with a butcher the next time we were there and they would make it up to us. We got $30 of rib eye steaks, AND very friendly prompt service. I was rather surprised just from the call let alone the free steaks.

Those kind of places usually are the best. The place we ate breakfast at yesterday was a hole in the wall place. Mack had looked up on the internet what were the best places to eat breakfast at in this area. It was listed, so we tried it. Very good, excellant service. They only serve breakfast and lunch.

Thank you!!.....Hey if anyone is interested in breaking into the Sporthorse forte. BA Taizer Bey is one hell of a colt, he would clean up in Sporthorse and or endurance. He is on the for sale page of the site. This boy body wise looked like a quarter horse when he was born. Nice bone and a strong hip, lots of substance!! Not to mention a pretty pretty head, easy to handle and a sweetie. Measures to go 16-16.1 hands.

CVS is just getting started here. Walgreens has been here awhile. Eckerds used to be the big drugstore chain here and I've heard that CVS is taking over Eckerds.

That was really nice that they gave you those steaks.

I used to shop at an albertson's in another area that we lived in years ago. I like albertson's and they have the best selection of products, (imo), but I find that you really have to watch the expiration dates on stuff that has them. I've seen yogurt weeks out of date and chicken several days out of date. Oh, and green bologna still on the shelf. How they missed that, I'll never know.

Good morning, Everyone gets alfalfa hay twice a day, right now a large bat each feeding. It's pretty much what they will clean up. They get pelleted feed and oats once a day.

This is unusual in that everyone just started this, the one mare is one foaled here and now seven years old. No one has done this before.

Hello all!
I was out of town for the weekend, for some R&R. :)It was nice to get away from animals and kids for awhile.
The one female kitty is in heat. She certainly is getting obnoxious about it too. The male kitty has an appointment on Tuesday to get neutered. We will have to keep them apart until then. I should have made an appointment for both of them, but it's so darn expensive.

Speaking of eating out, we did go to a really nice restaurant last night. I had the scallops, and they were to die for. I always like the local owned restaurants too. Most of the chains do not allowed smoking, so I will not go there.

My daughter leased another horse to show this year. A QH gelding. He will stay at this barn down the road, that has an indoor arena for a month, but I will get pics as soon as I can. We were talking about sending the Arabian out for some riding for a few months. She has been saddled, and rode a little, but never really worked. We only have a small area, that stays dry for lounging, but not a good place to really work them.

When my son was here the other day, looking at this thread, he asked me if anyone on here used alfalfa hay. He said he thought out west that was all they used. I didn't know.

We have a few of the horse vets out here that feed nothing but alfalfa. But to get decent alfalfa you have to ship in in from other places. Too expensive for most out here.

I'll have to tell him you use it.

Becky
