Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Good morning - I could read this all day so keep going on the colors :)
Pinging for new pictures of estrogen
Oh, this is a colt that he imprinted at birth then turned out to pasture for 2 yrs or so and now he's got him in training the Parelli way. I like watching him work.
Also, a picture of Grace. It's blurry but it's the best I've got...
The quick, condensed, short, sweet, I don't have much break time reason. :)
Have you ever seen a silver Lab? Genetic defect on black. Last time I had heard, AKC was not recognizing them.
No.... I haven't ever seen one. But I did a search on them just now... and see the debate about them.... most thinking they are a defect, a few people breeding ~for~ them. They'll figure out how to really screw them up too, I suppose. ;~D
The paint that's bucking like a booger is the one he imprinted from birth??
I like the color stuff too. The genetics of it get way to complicated, though.
Here's my breeder's take on color in Labs:
Lab Lessons - Let's Talk About Color?
She breeds nothing but Labs, and she's been in the business for 30 or 40 years . . .
Oh man, tell your boss your busy with your saddle club. He'll understand.
My boss probably doesn't mind. It's the "big brother" IT people, who monitor the servers that I worry about. They have fired people at other sites, for being on line so much.
No, these appear to be a new thing... a mutation of some kind... they are silver, and look like Weimeraners.

Interesting that the "splashed white" pattern carries the genetic defect of deafness.
"The genetics of it get way to complicated, though."
Maybe for some people.
Not really.... they are registering them as Chocolates. I am sure they would be ignored in the show ring. They might be different and cool looking, but I think the fact that there are people going out of their way to make them is just the same old oft-repeated story.
Well, I did see one, and a local lab breeder does have them.
