The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Kind of slow here today. I just got home and am tired. I think I'm going to stay in tonight. The stable owner has a couple of teenagers that work for her that rides Okie and Sarah Lee for us.

Well, shoot. My miserable weather is less miserable than yours - how's that for an incentive?

That's quite an incentive. Let me tell you. Snow tonight, not supposed to get above the teens for the rest of the week, and we're expecting another big snow storm on Sunday.

Hey I ran into 2J at the grocery store tonight. She told me you were coming to visit her in June:)

You can't come that close to me and not come ride with me one day anyway, hopefully longer. I've got enought horses for all, and maybe one night we can ALL get together for a cook out. I've got an RV I will set up for you and ecurbh to stay in. So no excuse not to:)

That sounds fabulous! And we would love to! Yes, we will be coming to Oklahoma and Missouri in June! I think we are driving out there.

How long you all going to be around these parts? That's an awful long drive.

The length of the trip is still to be decided! The only thing we know for certain is that we will be in Missouri the weekend of June 3-5. We're free afterwards to come down there and visit 2J and her chickens, and meet you and your horses, and go on whatever trail rides you would like! Really looking forward to it.

Yes, it is a long drive. We're getting together with the HH people in Missouri to shoot guns, and it seems easier to drive than to try to check all the guns on a plane. ;~D And easier to get down there certainly too... I can bring my English Saddle this way for you to try ;~D

~Is excited about trip now~

As it gets closer we'll nail down how many days we've got and how many days you can stand.

I really need to get Beaker out her to tend the horses. We have to go to Arizona in March for ecurbh's sister's wedding too.

Well you were right. I talked with that man about the 30 acres today. The guy that told me about it was a little off. He doesn't want 3000 an acre but 13000. He says he's not really looking for an indivdual buyer because he knows the price too high for that but wants to sell it to a developer that will split it up in lots so they can both make more money. I'm running out of places to look:'(. Everyone wants to sell to builders.

I wish that I could. Too bad you couldn't teleport me. I couldn't miss classes anyway, so I guess that the breaks. :-/

Question: What does PETA do when they think they see a horse in trouble?

Answer: In our case, the horse was lying down sunning himself, and they called animal control.

We told the woman that if she was really worried about the horse she should have called his veterinarian, whose name (along with two backups) is listed in the barn.

Anyone else here have similar problems?

Was it you that was asking what my ferrier charges for thrown shoes? I was wrong. He charged me 55 dollars the last time because the horse was due. I found out that he doesn't charge anything for replacements in between.
