Thread Four: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1332664/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
:)
My 5 year old boy is now 27:(, no way to get him to pick up my trash. Well I could and he would, but I can't so he won't:)
Becky
I liked the way she looked when you got her, not that I don't like the way she looks now. She's got that lean, racehorse look about her, like she could run forever. Definatelu more efficient for cooling than being all bulked up. I've always read that as long as you couldn't SEE their ribs, but could just barely FEEL them by running your fingers firmly along their sides, that the horse was considered "fit". She's a pretty one that's for sure.
Ah, that was supposed to be "definately" not "definatelu". Sorry 'bout that.
I thought you were talkin' some fancy french talk or somethin' ;~D
She does look like a distance runner.
I've called around this morning to a couple places where they give riding lessons... asking for them to keep an eye out for a teenager who would really like access to a couple horses to ride, who would be a responsible and caring enough kid that they could farm-sit for us once in awhile.
I want a kid just like me when I was 16 and started hanging out at the Cameranos. A kid like Becky's Heather. The horses could use all the exercise of both us riding more often, and a kid coming and riding them around, and we'd really like to have someone who could stay here when we are gone on a couple trips this summer. Would be nice if they are already knowledgable, but OK if they aren't too if they are the right sort. I know there is probably a kid within bicycle distance who would love to have a horse but can't afford it, or can't for whatever reason. One with good parents who wouldn't sue us if she falls off.
I keep saying I wish a kid would show up, but they haven't. Maybe I should put a sign in the pasture. Wanted: responsible kid or adult who wants to ride.
I could teach them how to log in and ask you all for advice if they don't know what to do ;~D
I can't see them at the same time but her flanks look more muscular
I came in from burning, took awhile to get the piles going, they were damp, and it's hard to get piles already stacked up to start.
Mack laughed, I came in with black all over my face.
I took some pictures too. Will post them later. Nothing exciting really, it's just you can see the rock I deal with, better now that everything has died off. Looks pretty barren out there:(
Becky
I would think some kid would jump at the chance to do that, even for free, just to ride, I know I would have. Heather would too...but she's not really old enough to house sit.
My DIL, has a friend who runs a business house sitting for people with live stock. I'd think that could be a pretty lucrative business for the right person. She gets to stay at some pretty nice places, and then again she has said some are dumps.
Becky
I think that Cyn has filled out a lot along her back and croup and underside. Don't see much change in her neck. She looks a lot better though
You know I would "pick you" if you showed up at the gate!
Report for duty tomorrow by 7:30am and you've got the job :)
I have a dog leash around one of them here, and ecurbh had gone back to the truck to get the other dog leash (and the camera) to catch the other one, when the owner showed up. They lived at the cluster of house and buildings behind them here.
The trainer says that she is just laying down because the foal is so big that sometimes she's hurting and needs the relief. That is pretty much what I thought, too. Sugar looks like she may actually be taller laying on her side than she is standing up. : ' )
We went down to see our Tumwater Falls today, because the rivers are so full... You can see that this is a pretty deep ravine, so it doesn't flood it's banks so much as it just gets NOISIER when we get this much rain.
I've included earlier pictures I've taken there or that I could find that show the normal flow for comparison.
Here are the upper falls in SUMMER:

Here is the middle river today from almost the same spot but not quite. The rocks where we stood to take the other pic is under water.
Here are the lower falls in summer:

I'm impressed!
Wow!
So did the trainer have any clues on how far out he thinks she is?
Thanks... glad you don't mind the off-topic... hoped you'd like to see noisy rivers!
Soon, but no firm predictions.
