The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I have to brag a bit:), I just constructed the best tool. It's not my idea, I got if from my grandfather years ago, but "I" made mine.

Grizzly has drug so much trash up into the yard that I have been dreading picking it all up. You know, old age and bending over just doesn't work:) Any way, I took an old broken broom handle put it in our vise, drove a big nail into the end, then filed the head of the nail off to a point:), Now I just carry a trash bag hanging from my neck by the ties, "stab" the trash and put in the bag. It was so cool, and I got the job done so fast.

Doesn't take much, does it:)

Well riding should develop it up too. It takes alot of time for horses that have gotten underweight to fill back up I think. I know it took Rusty over a year,, of course he was alot worse then Cyn was, but it still took longer then I thought it should have, with the amount I was giving him. Even now, he seems to be a harder keeper then the others. But he still improves each year I have him. So I'd say as long as you see steady, even tho slow, improvement, I just keep on keeping on.

She is a little fuller... We would do better to get the same pose out of her once a month so we can really compare apples and apples!

Her topline is rounder too, her spine less apparent and more meat over her back.

Most of the trash came from a trash bag I had put in the back of my truck. I left the tailgate down and he drug the bag out. Some of the trash was diapers:(, and there is no picking up the filling in those things, looks like clumps of sleet here and there. The mower should take care of it tho.

I really wanted to shoot my labrador when he got into diapers once. Dogs are so disgusting!

It's bloody cold! about 19 today, and yesterday it was down to 3. We're getting a snow storm tonight that'll throw down about 4" and then we're supposed to get a Nor'easter on Sunday.

Good morning, Cyn looks fuller to me - I think her rear end will fill out with work.

Hey, you know that the jelly-like "stuffing" inside a diaper (and NO, I'm not talking about the other "stuffing" in a diaper) works great when mixed with potting soil for your plants. It sucks up water then lets it back out slow like that expensive stuff you buy that's for the same purpose. Just thought I'd throw that one in for what it's worth.

LOL I feel like a whimp with my whining after looking at Beaker's weather.

I'm sure I detected my horses make plans to jump the fence and head south in mass this morning. We are all so sick of this.

Three accidents on Hwy 50E going home last night.

I have a better tool for that. It's a 5 year old boy who loves to be given jobs to do. He has an electric 4-wheeler with a trailer behind it, and keeps the yards looking great. (Sally loves to drag up trash, too.)
