Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I think you might be able to get your vet to order some for you. Sometimes I get it from my vet, sometimes my DIL orders through her work for me. It's really worth having on hand.
I need to learn how to give it... I've seen it done... but I get real queezy about needles.
Well, I hope and pray all is well in the morning... I'm gonna go to bed.
Talk to you 'round sunup :~D
Nite
Hey - I just noticed it's snowing here ;~D
Oh, I am so sorry. Maybe that's where my snow went.
I am not too far from you. I keep my horses near Celina. I have a good friend who loves to trail ride. He sometimes rides at Lake Ray Roberts. Once in awhile, some of the other riders from our barn will all get together and trailer over to Lake Ray Roberts for a trail ride.
I haven't been over there yet, but keep meaning to go. Four days a week I work at the barn where my horses are. I work for the dressage trainer. I have Wednesdays free for riding though until school starts again on the 18th. Then I have a biology lab Wednesday mornings.
I'd love to go on a trail ride. I have a couple of horses I could take. Actually, you would be safe riding trails with Fred even though he is a man. He isn't gay either, but is just an all-around great guy, and a real gentleman. Maybe we can all meet over there sometime for a trail ride. Fred just bought a new young horse so will probably be getting him out on the trails for training and wet saddle pads.
Glad to meet 'ya!
Good morning! Anybody else up this early?
I haven't read through all the posts so I'm catching up. I'm at the colicky horse, who I hope is ok this morning.
Becky, you mention that you didn't know that colic was so prevalent. The guy that runs the pet cemetery where a couple of my horses are buried, said the vast majority of horses he picks up for burial are colics and he picks up several horses EVERY DAY. Unbelievable.
I'm up briefly, to let my horse out to pee, but I am going back to bed ;~D
It was kind of chilly last night, about 45 I think. Should warm up nicely this morning though
I'm hoping I can venture out today and make use of the good weather. It's torture having this kind of weather and not being able to get anything done. That hurts almost as bad as my back does.
I have a friend that lives in Celina, she was the head instructor at the therapeutic riding place I used to volunteer at, called Riding Unlimited. I think she's also the head instructor at a place in or near Celina. Is Equest out that way? I get the names and locations of those places mixed up.
I was invited to go on a trail ride with this training stable nearby and I think it was Ray Roberts that we went to. My regular horse was lame that day so I took a 2 year old that I just got back from the trainers (Juma, for you guys keeping up with him). He did really well but these ladies from the stable were nuts. It was about 100 degrees that day and we TROTTED the whole stinkin' way. Poor Juma didn't know what to think. When I go out on the trails I like to take it easy and chat and enjoy the scenery. I sure as heck wasn't planning on an endurance ride.
The trails at Grapevine Lake are a little safer, in my opinion, especially for young horses just learning. I did a couple of things with Juma at Ray Roberts that I probably shouldn't have done, such as riding along on the edge of a cliff and close to a road.
Ok. Talk to you when you get back up.

Hey now. I like the "handsome" shrink. You were the one telling me about the psychic:')
Mornin'.
I read through all the posts. I hope Duchess' horse feels better this morning.
Are you going to ride today? I'm not, it's standing water muddy here.
Then I think this horse has an identity issue, because he's a gelding. :-)
What state are you in? If the low is 45 you might have a really warm day today.
Tuffy always pees in his stall as soon as he gets in there. He's a gelding, too. Maybe the excitement of getting fed makes them need to whiz.
