Is it ok to feed my cats raw bacon?

Posted on 12/24/2004 11:51:13 AM PST by little bus

One day, my cats were hungry and I didn't have anything in the house to feed them except raw bacon. They loved it! I continued to give them raw bacon each day and now it's their favorite food (they won't eat raw sausage, though). In fact, now they don't want anything else. I've tried different foods on them - vienna sausage, potted meat, canned mackerel, etc., but they want their bacon. Someone told me this might not be good for the cats, but they seem healthy. What do you think? I see cats on this sight sometimes when I surf, so maybe you know something here.

"Are you sure your wearing PJ's ?"

PJ's?? That's for wimps. We Michigan FReepers Freep in the nude! With the windows open!

Excuse me, seems as though the local constable would like a word at the front door.

Well, Raycpa's remark did sound like something a DUmmie would say.

I must have been too subtle. If you notice, I left an absurdity within my post. It presumes the possible newbie/troll feeds his grandma cat food while feeding his cat bacon. The fine art of good sarcasm should be obvious if someone stops and thinks about what is written. Unfortunately, I must have been a little too subtle.

Luxury.

We (former) New York freepers freep from the interior of a glacier! And we cool the computer with liquid nitrogen, lest it heat the glacier up too much!

Soon the cats will have their masters eating this recipe:

Kitty Litter Cake

Cake Ingredients
1 box Spice or German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 box White Cake Mix
1 package White Sandwich Cookies
1 large package Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
A few drops Green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING DISHES & UTENSILS (all previously unused and washed)
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill.
Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add food coloring to one cup of cookie crumbs.
Mix with fork or shake in a jar. Set Aside. When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist, but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in microwave oven until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top. Heat 5 more tootsie rolls unitl almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and drape over the edge of the box.

Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy (catlover)!

Maybe, but they usually don't hibernate for six years before saying it.

I heard that you shouldn't give cats any pork at all. Not sure why I think it may cause worms (??)

Raw pork could contain nasty little things - that's why it should be well cooked. Or, at least that was the reasoning. Now days it might be safe. My cats have a taste for fresh rabbit and dove which they don't get now that we've moved into town, but I wouldn't feed them raw bacon. I would check with a vet.

Thgat's just to dumb to reply to but I will:

I have had at least one Springer living in my house for 25 years, a total of four.

In those 25 years I have made one trip to the vet other than normal checkups. Had one that lived to be 20 years old.

I have never had anyone of them turn over or get in the garbage.

My youngest Springer gnawed the corner of an ottoman. That is the only household damage any have done and none have ever
spent a night outside.

The longest house breaking period was one week.

I can count on my fingers the number of times all of them have
woke me up during the night.

I have never had anyone of them roam or go near the highway
or street.

They've all been around kids all their life, never had one even
growl at a kid.

Tell me about your canine genius.

"I didn't fall for it. When I post "Welcome to Free Republic" it's code for "Hey look everyone, it might be a troll."

That's "EggsAckley" why I posted it to you.

I looked at all the posters being so naive I was becoming despondent. ;)

I particularly liked "Carolyn" with ... "I can't imagine that a steady diet of raw bacon would be good for them. Check out some of the websites -- you could learn more there, or call your vet and see what he says."

Merry Christmas!

Wouldn't it be a lot funnier if you employed a USED kitty litter box and a USED pooper scooper? And didn't tell your guests?

Say, come on over for Christmas dinner. I'm cookin'.

These young FReepers won't do that any more. Worried about
"shrinkage." Bah! I drink liquid nitrogen as energy drink!

They don't remember the old days, do they squire! I remember when I had to freep from the depths of space, without a spacesuit, and I'd be sweating if the temperature got above 1o Kelvin! My modem would kick me offline if so much as a single atom vibrated even once from heat energy! The kids of today. They don't know cold, do they?
