The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I remember the "chili" my sister-in-law made for us last winter. She uses ketchup as her base.

That's just WRONG!

Underwood Deviled Ham, and it can be right delectable with a little doctorin' ...!

I still remember the picture of the little devil with a pitchfork on the paper wrapper.

I didnt even cover everything...

Just a word of advice. Don't obsess over it. That will only burn you out and turn Erin off. She'll get it; just ease her into it. If you need to work into the summer, that would be better than trying to cram too much in right at the beginning. You took this on to be closer to her; don't make her feel like it's a huge chore. I know you're feeling like you HAVE to do all this because her education is your responsibility now, but just take it easy on both you and her.

I'm just sayin, is all. ;o)

It was such a busy day, knife-wise, I forgot that there was a fifth item to report.

While Uncle Sam bought thousands of the pricey Camillus Cuda CQB1s, he's also buying lots of Camillus knives from their Becker Knife $ Tool brand. These are vey sturdy, but somewhat chunky, knives that list for about half the price of the Cuda. The blades are made of the same tool steel our Cuda CQB3s are made of. We can also get these at the government's price. They're also pretty reasonably priced "on the street".

First, the BK2 Companion:

The other is the BK4 Combat Utility.

I bought one of each for prototype purposes. They're available with a tan epoxy-coated blade, and desert-tan handles and sheaths. I figured I'd be ahead of the learning curve.

In talking with Michelle from Camillus, I learned that they are discontinuing the tan color, because nobody, not even the government, was buying it. So there may be some closeouts out there that we can give a good home to.

how'd you know we had a Shoney's?... right off'n the freeway...

Yes...right up 32 from Long John Silver's and the Burger King...could drive the other way and go to Hardee's, or to the Blimpie on Jefferson. That's not far from the Stonegate Station...

:)

I know becaue back when you first gave Lebanon as a planning destination, I opened my mapping software and planned what turns out to be about a 12-hour trip (breaks included)...

And there it was...

Good Morning, Everyone!

Oh yeah, winter in the South. ;o) We thought Huntsville was a pretty town when we drove through several years ago. It's a possible 'retirement' destination for us.

Any word update on the doggies? Do you expect to hear from them again?

In theory she's going to send me digital photos from time to time. I haven't heard from them since my last call, though.

I think I'm feeling OK about it now. I have to admit it's been much easier doing all the house prep without them. They aren't the...calmest dogs in the world.

I think they'll be fine. I do hope I hear from them occasionally, though!

Well the people that I've met here are just as charming and nice as can be. (But I can say that about most places that aren't in the DC-NY corridor.)

Good morning!

Well, I went to the hardware store last night and talked to one of the people I actually trust, and described my predicament, complete with showing how wide the crack was. He said it didn't sound like a big deal and to just use spackle. I asked about joint compound, and he said you COULD use that, but since we were talking very tiny cracks, it wasn't really necessary and joint compound is harder to handle and takes longer to dry than spackle. He also said the caulk wasn't a great idea because it isn't sandable, and though you can smooth it with a finger, it's tough to get to the same level as sanding allows. So...I bought more spackle to be sure I had enough and patched the corners last night. Seems to be fine. Disaster averted! Also spackled over all the nails in the paneling, all scrapes, all nail holes, etc. etc. We all worked on it for awhile last night...I think we pretty much finished! So...for today, we might get sanding done before music night and wipe everything down, and tomorrow I can start with the sealant and then paint by the weekend. Whew. I'll be so happy when this is all done!

Ya know...it don't seem fair that Bakshi (*shudder*) would be allowed and anime wouldn't....or was that just a joke? I know rulez is rulez...I just don't unnerstand that one.

I need a new book. Finished Collie Willis' Bellwether. Hm...may be time for more Alistair MacLean.

It's starting out above zero today, which is nice. Supposed to get up to 10. Heh.

Will do. It is still a few months away So we will see how it goes. Looks like a lot of free weekends this spring so it should be do-able. My rough plan is a trip some time late April early Mayish depending on weather.

If so then I would be:
party of 1, camping out and:
short: 45acp, 22lr
long: 22lr, 7.63mm, 44winmag
I assume it is BYOB (bring your own bullets (and enough to share))
