Oh, I just picked up the first of those Jasper Fforde books - I wasn't going to, but the hardcover was on the five dollar bargain table, so how could I resist? I'll let you know what I think...

I read science fiction... I'm sadly used to it...

Read a good book today, "The Engines of God" by Jack McDevitt. Nice archeological/science fiction thing. A good change of pace for me.

I think you'd like it although there's a little too much implied bed-hopping for my tastes. And language. But it was quite fascinating...

I'm realizing I probably can't bring ALL my books with me.

Too bad Van-sama doesn't have a trunk like the Weasleys'...

Heh, we should see what we might have that overlaps... I've got some Jane Austen novels, at least. And a lot of Agatha Christies.

We should do a list up one of these days.

I have nice hardback versions of some Austen novels...I suppose I can leave behind the paperbacks. *sniff* And Agatha Christie...yeah, we should compare inventory!

I also started removing all the books I'd borrowed indefinitely from Dad and putting them in a box...guess I should return those!

I have probably half of what Christie wrote, most Sherlock Holmes stories, a handful of Brother Cadfaels, and a half-dozen assorted classics of all stripes. The rest is science fiction and fantasy of all eras.

Hmm, but I am going to need to get you a bookshelf...

Glad to see you made it back safely. David has to leave on Wed. afternoon. It sure has been fun having him home.

Sigh, I'm actually ok being back now. Something in me switched from lazy-family-mode to independent-student-mode.

Hope David's trip is as uneventful as mine... other than a forty-five minute wait on the luggage, everything was boring.

He's gotta get his computer packed back up and carefully padded for the trip. He doesn't want to ship it cause that means he'll be without it for a time here and maybe when he gets back. He says he trusts the gorillas in baggage more than those at UPS. ;o)

Just checkin' in afore I head to bed. We watched De-Lovely after we got home from the cast party. It was De-Awful. Prolly the worst thing I've seen in a long time.

Most of Christmas is put away. We'll finish tomorrow.

We watched Manchurian Candidate tonight. They tried hard to make Manchurian Global seem like Halliburton, even to the point of a news report making a comment about no-bid contracts. The screenwriter wanted to draw a parallel between the Shaw character, who has been brainwashed by the corporation, and VP Cheney; the director even alluded to that in one of the interviews in the special features. The comparison broke down every time you looked at Meryl Streep, though, because all you saw was Hillary!

Get to go snowshoeing today for the first time this year. There's quite a bit of snow. Too bad it's supposed to rain in a coupla days... But today will be perfect. High 20s and partly sunny.

Also have to call the people back about the dogs. Trivial Prayer List time: pray that I say the right things and make the right decision!

Morning!

Spent yesterday in sheer agony - had to go shopping for shoes to go withthe dress. Ugh. I hate the mall.

Picked up two CDs that are vey good: Madeline Peyroux's Careless Love and the Ditty Bops' album (self-titled). I was feeling quirky.

Is Madeline Peyroux that new gal that almost sounds like a polished up Billie Holliday? I just heard her the other day for the first time...really liked her voice and style.

Yeah - smoooooooooove throw-back loungey jazz. Very nice for a quiet day. My only critique is that there is nothing upbeat on the entire album. Everything is the same tempo. That's fine, I guess. But it leads one to wonder if that's the only thing she can do.

You might like the Ditty Bops. They use Vaudeville for their inspiration, sing a tight harmony, have very vivid lyrics and are quirky as can be. It's a great album to mix things up a bit.
