Does anyone know a little about digital cameras? I need a little help.

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:04:15 AM PST by pumba555

I'm thinking about getting this mini digital camera as a Christmas gift. It's only $30, is it too good to be true? Will the picture be of any quality? I don't really know much about digital cameras.

The link to see the camera will open in a new window.

Thank you!

It looks to be about webcam quality. If you've never seen webcam images before, they're low-light and very blurry. The keychain digital camera is still a gimmick for the most part.

That's the very same question Santa's helper asked today when we took our little girl to get her picture taken with Santa. Wow!!!

Depends on who it's for.
This one is more a trinket and a child might like it but it will not produce anything near a quality photo. You can get so much better for about $100, so if it's for someone important got the extra distance.

Thanks guys, that's pretty much what I thought.
It's so small too, it'd be hard to aim and focus.

There is no such thing as a 30$ digital camera.

Try to buy one with at least 3 mega pixel quality. This is a pic with 1.2 mega pixels:

Quality is not good. You can see the pixels.

This ones at 5 mega pixels:

Quality is better. Taking snaps with 1 to 2 mega pixels is OK. They're just small. Digital cameras use memory cards. They come in 16 megabytes, 32, 256, 512 and 1 gig. You can find them at any Walmart. A deceit camera will cost you at least $100 dollars.

You also want the camera to come with a USB port and adaptor/cord so that you can download the pictures into your computer.

Hi, I bought one for $60.00 over a year ago, it is great, but I was lucky, my camera had the right features. It is 1M with a flash, small,a Concord duo lcd, with a 2x zoom, in traditional cameras it is like a basic film camera.I hold the camera very still while taking pics so it will have a sharp image. The flash is automatic in low light. You can download graphic programs that will fix picture problems( free at cnet.com)take some pic. immediately and if it does not work return it within 2 days.

Get at least 3 megapixels-also 10x zoom-should be a lifetime camera for you. You need to spend 3-4 hundred. I love my Olympus. It has xD picture card-best memory card on the market. You need at least 128mb card.

In addition to the advice above, don't forget the rechargeable batteries and the recharger. Wally World or Radio Shack offers deals on these items.

Mama_Bear knows a lot about cameras. I am sticking with my Pentax K1000. I can't deal with digital. I suppose someday I'll come to the other side.....

It's not too good to be true because it's not good. With photo equipment, you get what you pay for, and at $30 you are not paying for much.

It's an expensive keychain, but a crappy camera.
