The blogosphere is a great thing, but, everyone here hides behind their keyboards, including the moderator.

My ignorance of Pantera says nothing of my lack of knowledge of music, sorry to say. I don't consider metal music, and even if I did, I doubt I would consider any of it any good. I am open to reconsideration of that last point, however.
A number of Mozart's pieces are simple and small. Are they not music? Have you mastered any Czerny Etudes? They were written exclusively to train pianists in technique. But they are played in concert recitals. The main theme on Beethoven's "32 variations" is pre-school simple and repeated *ahem* 32 times. It's a stunning and challenging piece.

You may loath the harsh sounds of metal and not care to appreciate not only that, but the whole of the music. That's fine.

I hate "folk", but I know not to say it "ins't music".

>>All state band? Wow.<<

Did you make it? What musical awards do you have?

>>Oh, bullshit. Honestly. I am calling bullshit on you, right here and right now. Nothing could be further from the truth, and (giving you the benefit of the doubt) a reasonable person can only conclude at this point that Pantera was simply over your head.<<

Explain to me how this disputes my comment about metal being nothing more musical than piano banging. I don't give a rip whether you think my opinion is BS. You haven't said one damn thing that dispute ANYTHING I've said. And all others have done is give adhomimen attacks. The examples I asked for in earlier posts PROVE my point, rather than dispute it.

>>I'll bet you can't play your way out of a wet paper bag.<<

Now we can add you to the list of those spouting adhominems.

It is clearly obvious that as irate as you are with this truly idiotic post (idiotic because it adds NOTHING to the discussion), that I'm on to something. If I weren't 1) you'd ignore it and/or 2) you'd have much better ammunition. No personal attack ever bothers me in the least because I always consider those that attack as having conceeded the argument. Else, why attack? Besides, let's say I'm a lousy player (and I probably am a lousy French Horn player); does that mean I'm wrong?

Now, since you haven't been able to deal with any of my substantive arguments (except calling them BS), what attack are you going to hit me with next? A lawyer joke?

Did you make it? What musical awards do you have?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah, I "made it", and I got "awards". You won't understand this, but I have made a lifelong career in music, so I don't need to make pathetic claims about what I did when I was a friggin' high school kid to support my opinion. I have made a living playing music. I have gigged and done sessions my entire life. I am surrounded by professional musicians, both friends and family. I am a professional R&B singer. I also play guitar, bass, and keys - and have played all professionally. My dad played with Louis Armstrong, for heaven's sake...and I'm talking to some high school horn player on the internet who believes herself to know more about this than I do.

Maybe you're wrong, in spite of having been in "all-state band". Meditate on that, okey dokey?

Explain to me how this disputes my comment about metal being nothing more musical than piano banging.

Oh, EXCUSE ME. Your contention was so absurd I didn't think it was even worth arguing about. But, you know, don't take my word for it - find a Pantera chart and see if you can play it on your french horn.

ROTFLMAO

>>My dad played with Louis Armstrong, for heaven's sake...and I'm talking to some high school horn player on the internet who believes herself to know more about this than I do.<<

This proves you aren't even paying attention. I never claimed that my awards or accomplishments in music 1) supported my opinion or 2) proved I knew more about ANYTHING than you do. I really don't care what your experience is; it has nothing to do with the argument at hand. My original statement was IN RESPONSE to some nonsensical allegation that I might not know anything about music. That's just ludicrous. You're so busy trying to attack me personally because you don't like me or my opinion, that you can't even focus on the real issue.

Besides, this is all irrelevent anyway. I could have made a living playing if that's what I had chosen to do. Music is something I do for enjoyment, not to try and make money with. If you do, I'm happy for you if that's what you want to do, but it isn't what I want to do. Either way, your experience doesn't make you right and me wrong.

Why did you suggest that I "won't understand this?"

>>Maybe you're wrong, in spite of having been in "all-state band".<<

My status of all state band has nothing to do with my opinion here. I personally believe it (along with other things) proves I know at least SOMETHING about music. You can opine otherwise, if you choose, but I think you'd be in the vast minority if you disagreed. But it is interesting that you are now focusing on other issues than the argument at hand. I wonder why that is.

>>Your contention was so absurd I didn't think it was even worth arguing about. <<

If its so absurd, it ought to be easy to refute. You haven't even come close to doing that. You're not even attempting to refute it; rather you're trying to slam me or prove that you are somehow all knowing and I'm an idiot. If you want to engage in those tactics, fine, but it won't advance your case any.

>>But, you know, don't take my word for it - find a Pantera chart and see if you can play it on your french horn.<<

I don't have a French horn, and haven't played one in about 20 years. I played one for a church performance once only because we had too many cornets, which is what I played at the time. I don't count the FH as one instrument I play, because I'd probably sound worse on that than many metal CDs!

Dimebag was talentless and played no talent needed music..... He dyed his beard a freaky purple. Our young freepers will learn to appreciate real music like the Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra.

Darrell Abbott was born Aug. 20, 1966, the son of country songwriter Jerry Abbott. The guitarist took up rock 'n' roll, where his influences included KISS' Ace Frehley and Eddie Van Halen. Abbott and older brother Vinne formed Pantera in 1983.

The Dallas-based band raged for the next two decades, releasing such notable albums as Cowboys from Hell (1990), Vulgar Display of Power (1992) and Far Beyond Driven (1994), and even scoring a Grammy nomination, before calling it quits in 2003.

The Abbotts went on to found Damageplan, whose debut album, New Found Power, featuring appearances by Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor and Ozzy Osbourne sidekick Zakk Wylde, was released in February and cracked the Top 40 on the Billboard charts.

NOT BAD FOR SOMEONE WHO IS TALENTLESS!!!!
Your music is your choice and my music is my choice. If you are going to do nothing but whine about Dime..THEN STOP READING THE POSTS and get on with your life~!

Oh... Have a happy holiday!
