Ho, ho, ho: 'Santa' Gets On All Fours, Town Gets Up In Arms
Men's News Daily ^ | Wednesday, December 08, 2004

Giant adverts for a lap dancing club have been branded obscene by families who want them ripped down.

The billboard features a naked woman on all fours wearing only a Santa hat, red gloves and thigh-length boots.

The hoarding in Northfield's main shopping area has embarrassed parents walking their children to school.

One six-year-old girl asked: "Mummy, where's the real Santa?"

The advert promotes the Medusa Club, in the city centre's Suffolk Street. The club opened 12 weeks ago and has already caused a stir by overturning a rule which bans strippers dancing within 12 inches of punters.

Coun Reg Corns (Con, Northfield) said: "This is the very worst kind of advertising because it is designed to alarm and shock people.

"I want these adverts removed as soon as possible and I've contacted Northfield's constituency director.

"I've had a call this morning from the mother of a six-year-old girl who was both embarrassed and upset about the advert. The little girl wanted to know what had happened to the real Father Christmas."

A spokeswoman for the RAC said it was also opposed to roadside advertising such as the Club Medusa poster. "Drivers must be concentrating," she warned. "They should ensure they are not distracted.

"Roadside advertising like this has been found to pose a potential risk."

A spokeswoman for the Medusa said: "We've had no complaints so far - in fact it's quite the reverse. People have been saying how effective the adverts are."

'Some little ones will probably think this must be Santa's wife'

ANGRY mums shopping in Northfield today all agreed that the controversial posters should be ripped down.

Housewife Donna Wincott, 34, who has six children aged between 13 and two said: "It's disgusting. I would not want any of my children looking at this."

Leonie Bryan, 28, who has four children aged between one and 10 said: "This sort of picture should be kept in mens' magazines. It's not appropriate for a busy high street."

Mum-of-three Margaret McGuigan, aged 23, said: "It's very crude and gives kids the wrong impression of Christmas. Some little ones will probably think this must be Father Christ-mas's wife."

Student Becky Worth, 21, who has a four-year-old son, added: "I'm sure some adults will find it amusing but it's certainly not for children."

Shopper Mary Quinton said: "This debases women and the girl who posed for the photograph obviously has no self respect."

Restaurant manager Stephanie Timms, 28, who has two children, said: "This is totally wrong for this area. "My six-year-old daughter will walk past this poster on her way to swimming classes. I hope they take this down as soon as possible."

I'm no prude and I hate to come onto this thread and act like a Mom, but this is terrible. Kids are seeing this every day and it's just wrong. There is a place for ads like this one and that place is not a huge billboard where children can see it.

Father Christmas would never leave the house if she were the Mrs.

No strippers within 12" of punters? What about Place Kickers? Hell, if this rule had been in place for First Basemen, Mo Vaughn might have a World Series ring.

As a proudly heterosexual male of the species, I appreciate the female form but must agree with you, ma'am. I think this is inappropriate fare for a billboard as well.
