Except for the part about going to see the movie, I agree with the poster.
I understand the sex is evil argument...however at some point everyone gets disgusted with these movies, religious or not. The review was as I saw it. I am sure I won't be alone.
Gee, Phineas and Hazel are going to be sooooooo proud of their mom.....
p.s. I do not know or care whether that particular form of child abuse is spelled correctly.
Perhaps I need to explain. I, too, am disgusted at hollywood today. I've not the tiniest desire to see the movie. My complaint was the other dude trying to stiffle a differing POV. I think the noob that posted the reactionary post was referring more to the comments than to the thread, but the former isn't possible without the latter.
Thanks for clarifying. The boxed in arguments of sex and censorship don't apply to every opinion expressed. It is a way to stiffle discussion and name call to win an argument. Discussion is needed for sure when it comes to matters of our culture.
Julia's on my "been banned" list.
And your point is.......?
I am still trying to figure out what it is about Julia Roberts that makes her so appealing. She looks like a frog, she has the mental capacity of a bag of dirt, and her movies invariably suck out loud. Catherine Zeta Jones, now there is something worth going to the movies for.
Going to see a stupid (unnngh, Julia Roberts?) movie just so you can say 'Oooh, I got you good, I showed you, neener neener neener' is a juvenile waste of money. You should feel as silly doing that as the Church Ladies should feel raising a fuss in the first place.
"So I thought I'd find that in a Julia Roberts movie."
I do not want to misunderstand and I apologize if I do....but if I do not like internet sex chat room movies and multiple couple swapping movie plots does that make me the Church Lady?
I hope we have an opportunity to express opinions without having blanket arguments thrown at us. Surely the taste of our culture hasn't turned to a straight porn theme for entertainment..... And if you object to that you are the Saturday Night Live rendition of The Church Lady. Please tell me I misunderstood.
No, it doesn't. I don't think anyone should be made to approve or watch anything they don't like. I'm not a close minded jerk because I didn't like Farenheit 9/11. You couldn't pay me enough money to watch another Julia Roberts movie, to say nothing of one that's about internet chat rooms. I think that most chick flicks are quite possibly a tool of Satan himself.
But I still wouldn't ban any of them.
If people want to make, distribute, and watch stuff like that, have at it. As long as inappropriate stuff is restricted to adults, then I don't care what movies people are making.
My comment to ban meant to Parents who want to ban their own children (older youth) from watching them. Some adults I know think Julia is great in movies and would not think this material would be in one of her movies.
I appreciate your post AM. I don't see many movies but I appreciate knowing which ones to stay far away from and warn my friends about. Don't let the FR "Porn for the Masses or Else Lobby" get you down.
I have a list of "stars" that I just won't watch. Julia Roberts heads up that list. I wouldn't go see one of her movies for any reason.
"Away foul troll...zot!"
Oh, I'm sorry. You confused "person who refuses to tow the backwards fundamentalist line" with "troll".
Don't feel too bad about it; happens all the time on these threads.
RE: "Part of the free market is advertising - and counter-advertising. You seem to object to word-of-mouth counter-advertising.
Or, is speech only free for those who ADVOCATE those things you enjoy?"
Not at all. I'm merely pointing out that not everybody on this thread shares your PERSONAL OPINION of this movie, or it's "lack of moral values". You can Protest this movie all you want, and that's your right.
But your side (FCC/ Fallwell-styled zealots) is only ONE side, and you don't have a monopoly on right and wrong.
RE: "You're going to write "AmericanMade" on the bill?"
Not really. That's just a way of pointing out how much pleasure I take in sticking it to the (authoritarian-at-heart) Holy Roller crowd on FR.
Does Natalie Portman get nekkid in it? If so it might deserve a rental.
