Yes.. I like those, very much. My friend Pat has some new thing that I love on her enclosed Lanai too. Will also check those out. They pull up and down and not to light darkening.
We are spending Thanksgiving at her house like last year.
I saw a great decorating show this morning, actually, it was 2 shows back-to-back with 2 guys from Canada. Think its called, Designing Guys. LOL Anyhow, on one of the shows, they dealt with remodeling an older, smaller bathroom.... it looked fabulous when they finished. These guys do real decorating, none of that artsy-craftsy, recyling stuff for them. They enlarged the bath, made it couple friendly LOL (if there is such a thing. The new one had a wall of windows, a tub at one end and a fabulous glass and tile shower at the other end. They also installed one of those great "vessel" sinks and it looked wonderful. (although I thought they should have selected a colored one instead of the white they used) Anyhow, it looked great when they finished.

I have sheers and draperies on "swing arm" rods on my french doors. I used two sets of rods on each side... Can have a totally open look in the daytime or during times when there is lots of traffic or just the sheers when I want to filter the light or swing the draperies around when I want privacy. I wrestled and wrangled with them and lots of sketches before I got what I needed.
Darlin.. I have those in my den at home. I love them, but mine are not shears because the TV is in there with the setting sun..lol.
The swing arm rods ? Aren't they great.
They are so old fashioned, but yes I do love them. My mother had those in her houses. Glad they brought them back..
I love the plantation shutters, too. I have great natural light in my house, its one of the features I loved most when I first saw it. I wanted to keep as much of that as possible. I put shutters on every window where they're not totally impractical... Upstairs almost all my windows are protected from view by very tall trees but I still have great light so I have white plantation shutters on the lower half of the windows up there and on most of them just a bit of fabric above the window or a roman shade taht I have keep pulled up most of the time.
Being kinky will not necessarily allow you to take Swervie's place.

Yes, they are old fashioned but I do love them. They use them alot in Europe, especially in hotels. Most of the time they use only the one set with sheers and then put a heavier drapery treatment on a single pole that runs the length of the french doors. My doors are buttressed by bookshelves on either side so when I swing back one or both rods they lie flush with the the sides of the bookcases.... I hope that explanation made sense. LOL

I had the Plantation shutters down the beach.. and I loved the look of them inside and out. I do think I'll stick to those on the front. It won't matter either because there are no other windows in those rooms to contend with.
I will only do half way too, as those windows are facing east, so it should be ok. If not, like you said some sheers or pull-ups of some kind.
The sliders meet in the middle on the lanai and open in a corner, so I might not have any choice on the verticals. Need to keep out the west sun but have something that opens up completely back to both room walls. I hate the damned things, but I think I might be stuck with them.
Babe, a lanai is nothing more than what they call the covered area just outside the back of your house before it meets with the open deck. It's where you can eat outside and put furniture and lamps out of the weather. Usually you have lots of open sliders or doors that extend the house to that outside living area.
A tropical word for covered porch area. ;)

The sliding doors...yes. They usually have vertical blinds. I could have sheers and drapes..but they don't last long in the humidity.
Yes, mostly called lanai in tropical or semi-topical locations, often called "loggias" in other places.
Plantation shutters here on the beach (south) and east sides. They are wonderful.
The humidity is rough on fabric and if the windows get strong or direct afternoon sun they fade and wear so quickly.
