There are a lot of crazy, sick, evil people in the world. That's why I keep a loaded .45 auto by the bed at night. We're also planning on getting a German Shephard this spring. My husband has installed security lights with motion detectors over the back door and door to the garage.

Keep the second one for guests, and password protect your new machine.

Cheers out there - it's gunshow weekend here in Austin.

Oooh. Good idea. Gun show here (well, Vallejo - 21 miles, no big deal). Hubby wants to go, I don't really want to. I've got too much to do this weekend. Christmas coming up next weekend, you know.

When a cop friend first stopped by our home to visit, two fairly large chow-mix poochies greeted him, barking and snarling, and acting like they wanted to leap over the back fence and chew his lips off.

He commented to me, "Well, I see you've got the best security system of all."

Just curious,...where do you keep it during the day?

Yep, dogs are good. We're going to start out with one adult German Shepherd, and later on get a GS puppy. I haven't had a dog since I was a little kid, so this will be an adventure for me. I'll need to learn how to properly train and manage a dog, especially one like a GS. We don't want one that's going to bark incessantly, nor bite anyone we don't WANT him to bite, like friends and neighbors, unless said neighbors decide to crawl over the backyard fence.

I lock it in the safe during the day when I'm not home. If someone breaks in when we're not home, I don't want it stolen. I don't want some dirtbag to use in to commit a crime, plus, I'd hate to lose it. It's a Kimber CDP pro - ambidextrous safety, night sites, rosewood grips, a nice, beautiful accurate piece.

Are you at home or at work today?

I've had great luck with pound poochies: they somehow seem to "know" that unless they are adopted, they are going to die, and seem to be grateful for the reprieve and protective of their new parents.

Ours do fine when out on walks, or over at relatives homes who also have pets, but Lord help anyone, or any thing, trying to get into our back yard that they don't know - and no, they have never gotten to know the lawn maintenance guys.

There is a German Shephed rescue operation in the area that gets GS's out of pounds and adopts them out. We're going to start with them. Hubby really wants a GS.

Probably not as I'm in eastern Canada, and the driving is a little tough in all the snow today. LOL.

Actually, just chatting as I am at work and completely bored.

Let me know whats for dinner and I'll decide. ;-)

The very first dog that Mrs.L and I had was a shepherd that found me one day when I was at work. He came wandering up into the shop area and I mistook him for a friend's shep, called out to him and he came loping over to me; his pads were all worn, his ribs really showing, no collar, but his tail was wagging at the kind words and the skritching.

I took him into the office, got some water and food for him, and he went home with me that evening to a very surprised Mrs.L, and four disbelieving cats.

Charlie was the best dog we've ever had, and was with us for a wonderful ten years.

You will love your rescued GS.

Eye of round roast beef (not really worried about mad cow, you see), with potatoes, carrots and onions. Mmmmm.

What a great story. I know I've shared the story about the two rescued cats we have, and how they found us. They're really the best little companions.

Sounds good.

We only have one mad cow in Canada, and her name is Carolyn Parrish.

We haven't decided what to do for dinner tonight. Tomorrow my daughter is having her annual Christmas party, so Hubby, son and I have to go out for dinner and to a movie. We go to a resturant that has great ribs, then we are hoping to see Team America.

I prefer small dogs to serve as burglar alarms and locating devices, because I don't have to worry about the getting into the line of fire.
