LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Rachel Hunter, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, ex-Mrs. Rod Stewart and "Are You Hot?" judge, will take the role of "Ginger" in "The Real Gilligan's Island," TBS's unscripted take on the classic sitcom. Hunter is the first of the seven castaways -- which the cable network cast as closely as it could to the original character templates of skipper, first mate, et al -- to have her identity revealed. "Mary Ann," a student from Manchester, Mo., is scheduled to appear in the pages of Maxim, which hits newsstands this week. The rest of the castaways will be revealed when the show debuts Tuesday, Nov. 30.
While she's undeniably famous, Hunter stretches the definition of "movie star" a little bit. Her film credits include such little-seen fare as "Rock Star," "A Walk in the Park" and the TV movie "Best Actress."
"The Real Gilligan's Island" will cross the very familiar stories of its namesake 1960s sitcom with more current fare like "Survivor." The seven castaways will take part in challenges modeled after incidents on the original show, like building a raft or collecting coconuts. The show is a collaboration between Mike Fleiss, who created "The Bachelor," and "Gilligan's Island" creator Sherwood Schwartz. Schwartz's son, Lloyd, is also an executive producer.
Fleiss also produced the widely reviled "Are You Hot?," on which Hunter served as a judge of male and female beauty.
The first season of "Gilligan's Island," including the relatively rare pilot episode, is available on DVD. I ordered mine from Amazon.
We...needed to see this.
We...DIDN'T need to see this.
No need to debate - Mary Ann rocks
Ah, my Dawn - forever young...
A deer hunter? A duck hunter? Fred Dryer?
I always preferred Mary Ann.
And THAT makes her undeniably famous????????
Don't be too sure. Heck, "This Just In" made a few references to the boys.
You must not have seen the SI Swimsuit issue, then.
At the very least, she's... undeniable...
No I didn't see it.
But then, I'm female, so it really doesn't interest me!!!!
She's attractive enough, but to be called "undeniably famous" is what caught my attention, and that was all I was commenting upon :)
Oh my...........!
OK, how about this.
Wilma Flintstone or Betty Rubble.
The original model was more of a luxury ride....
Betty Rubble (unless it's the movie live version played by Rosie O'Donuts)
Wonder Woman or Supergirl?
Wonder Woman was a bit too much Ride of the Valkyries for me. I liked Super Girl.
Oh, and the big screen Betty - Good lord what were they thinking!
Jeannie or Samantha?
UNNNGH!
Genie, Betty Rubble, Mary Ann, Wonder Woman, Belinda, Annette, Curly, George, Dan Rowan, Jimmy Page.
