Are you old enough to remember when KRBE, "The Key to radio Broadcasting Excellence" was all classical?

They had some great announcers too, Eamon Grant, Ray Landers, Anthony Rahe, among others.

I guess I'm not that old, or else I was not into classical then. I started getting into classical in the mid-70's, and KLEF was the only classical channel in town. KRBE (I never knew that KRBE was an acronym) was heavy into top-40 in those days.

KLEF really helped me get into classical music. They printed a program guide listing everything they were playing for the month, including the orchestra and conductor. It helped me learn composers and conductors and helped me know what to buy at the "record" stores.

Also in those days, Cactus Records was THE classical shop, and they had all their records in the order of the Schwann catalog, so you had to look it up in the catalog, write down its #, then go find the record. Classical was very pompous in those days.
