KLOL, 101.1 FM announced Friday that station has changed formats. The station switched from a classic rock format to a Latino music format branded as Mega 101.
KLOL is now branded as Mega 101 FM. The station's web site was listed as under construction, but KLOL's former morning show hosts Walton and Johnson announced on their web site that they were informed Thursday night of the change.
The radio hosts stated on WaltonandJohnson.com that, "Thursday night Walton and Johnson were informed by lower-level management sources via a last-minute phone call that there would be no Walton and Johnson Show tomorrow. In it's place would be Hispanic music programs."
Beat Flyer too!!!
Stevens and Pruitt was before my time because I moved to The Woodlands from Waco in Aug. 2001. I do know they were major players at KLOL.
Man, I still can't believe it! Someone wake me up!!
Since August 2000 (not 8/01 as I previously posted). I LOVE it here!!
Weren't they originally Hudson & Harrigan on KILT back in the 1960s rock & roll years? H&H later were 2 different DJs.
Few people seem to use their own name in radio; especially the traffic girls/guys.
Clear Channel is making a lot of changes. Yesterday was Chris Baker's last day @ KPRC 950. Sean Hannity will take his place, and Chris will be moved to KTRH 740. Good for Chris, as the signal is stronger and can often be picked up in San Antonio and Austin, so he will have a much larger audience.
Just Damn
I thought Outlaw Dave was promoting the annual Ball this year.
Moby and Matthews was in the mid-80's.
I haven't listened to KLOL since Stevens & Pruitt however long ago that's been.
Satellite radio will be my next choice.
It woke me up. I am sure it woke all of Houston TX up about the influence of the "Latino and Proud" population.
Yep, it's a great place. If my industry (NASA engineering)was up there, I'd be up there, too.
Well that really blows chunks. The radio choices we have in Houston really stink.
At least the Arrow is still on, they carry Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sunday nights. No reason why other stations can't play new ROCK AND ROLL. KLOL's playlist had become stagnent.
Rock, rock and roll radio, let's go!
Rock, rock and roll radio, let's go!

Do you remember Hullabaloo?
Up Beat, Shindig, and Ed Sullivan, too?
Do you remember rock 'n roll radio?
Do you remember rock 'n roll radio?
Do you remember Murray the K?
Allan Freed and high energy?
It's the end, the end of the 70's
It's the end, the end of the century
Do you remember lying in bed?
With the covers pulled up over your head?
Radio playin' so no one can see
We need change and we need it fast
Before rock's just part of the past
'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me
Do you remember Jerry Lee?
John Lennon, T.Rex and Ol' Moulty?
It's the end, the end of the 70's

Here's a much more recent one (past few years) from a band that put out their first album in 1974.
Who Will Save RocknRoll (The Dictators)
I fall to my knees
and look to the sky
Who will save rock and roll?
Murray The K
is not here today
so who will save rock and roll?
Every protest singer
every guitar slinger
every punk rock sinner sells his soul
My generation
is not the salvation
so who will save rock and roll
I saw The Stooges,
covered with bruises
who will save rock and roll?
Every mercenary,
three chord revolutionary...
choose your side and choose it well
June first '67
something died, and went to heaven
I wish Sgt Pepper
never taught the band to play
My generation
is not the salvation
So who will save,
who will save
tell me who will save
rock and roll?
Pay radio, just like television has been going for decades.
Expect to see major sporting events such as the Superbowl eventually go to subscription/pay per view. They may even cite the 2004 half time show as reason to "escape" the FCC (and move a highly watched "cultural", though insignificant, event to cable).
Parking at malls and public stadiums/arenas costs now too.
Everybody has a hand out for what used to be included in the service. Cable tv has as much advertising as the broadcast channels.
Also Sean's final hour used to be cut off the air in Houston (and Sean saved his best guest for that last hour). 560AM from Beaumont was not a dependable signal here in Houston.
...and this freeper's top choice for remaining rock radio stations:
THE BUZZ!!
(As long as it's still on the dial, of course!)
"Latino and Proud" is a racist slogan. Like "La Raza".
Totally DISGUSTING.
Definitly the end of an era for rock in Houston. Honestly though, I haven't been listening much. Too mush Judas Priest, Ozzy, Metallica, and other biker's head banger rock for my taste.
