Oh sure. You can try to persuade yourself, but not others. Just look at sports... Americas glory has fade away this year in Athens, and the Chinese performed great. Or look at US-made cars... just think of all that comes from Europe. US men weren´t even able to invent the nuclear bomb, they had to attract Europeans to help them (lol). Even the Moon-landing was organized by an immigrant. And in war? Well, we all know that America confronted the Germans after my ancestors were distracted for years by the Russians, Brits and French. But I understand, you don´t want to acknowledge that "being the best" is not an attribute of a nation but for individuals. Your claim is just not true. What does it help that you say American men are the best? In what are they the best? What is the best (regarding taste, e.g. cars)? One Man may say that he is the best on a certain issue, but a nation can never say that - this is narrow-minded and selfish. If it helps the unemployed beggar on the street when he watches me passing by in my dress that he says "I´m American and this is just a German" - this pretty much sounds like arrogance, which leads to nationalism.
Note: Patriotism is good, nationalism not. And your comment is exactly one step too much for patriotism. You´re trying to stand above others, and no longer on a level of equals.
Also, it is silly to be offended by stereotypes, precisely for the reason you cited: Even if it is true that Germans (and most Americans, too, BTW) have absolutely no fashion sense and can't find anything wrong with wearing white socks with sandals, everybody knows that there are always individual exceptions. So, there is no reason to get excited about it.
