Spyware? Get adaware to remove it. It'll be a start.
Maybe you should bang on it real hard with a hammer. I have also found that kicking it will work if a hammer is not available.
try booting in safe mode and once you get it on, don't turn it off until you think you've fixed the problem. Sometimes .exe and .dll files can be accidentely deleted from the Windows file on your drive when you do some house cleaning deleting of files

bttt
I would completely format the hard disk and reload Windows if spybot or adaware don't work.
But you can kiss goodbye anything you had saved or installed...
ps.exe I believe is a photoshop executable.
Do you have photoshop on your computer?
My brother told me about that. You think that`s what it is?? How can ads screw up your boot system though?
Do an online scan here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
But I do think you have to reformat, at the root.
How do you boot in safe mode?
go to pcpitstop.com
Yes I do! But it`s just not that, I get tons and tons of these freggin` error messages.
Probably too much spyware. Use Spybot or Adaware (both free at CNET.com) to get rid of it. If that doesn't work, then if you have Windows ME or Windows XP, you should try to restore your computer to a configuration that corresponds to a date when it worked properly.
f8
while it is booting
One of my mother's co-workers had an HP computer that gave the "fan defective" error message which wouldn't go away even with replacing the fan. She took it to a shop and they updated the BIOS, and that fixed the problem.
It's probably worth a shot - check your BIOS version and then check HP's website to see if they have a more up to date version.
I agree. Remove the spyware.
And I don't know about XP, but in 98 I went into the msconfig and removed a bunch of programs from the start menu. Computer fires up much faster and runs smoother.
In case anyone want to do this, here are the steps in Windows98
START
RUN
TYPE msconfig in the box
CLICK OK
CLICK STARTUP tab.
UNCHECK programs you don't use.
(If in doubt, leave it)
After the thread last week, I added Spy Sweeper to Adware and Spybot. I was FLOORED by how many Spy Sweeper found; and I keep a generally "clean" hard drive (or so I thought.)
