Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 10, 2004

Posted on 11/10/2004 5:08:15 AM PST by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

seriatim \sir-ee-AY-tim\, adverb, adjective:

1. In a series; one after another.

"Two days from the opening of the impeachment debate, gangs of television crews moved through mostly deserted corridors, doling out their 15 minutes of fame seriatim as individual lawmakers stepped up to batteries of microphones."
--The New York Times, December 16, 1998

Etymology: From Latin series, meaning "row, chain," and is formed on the same model as verbatim ("word for word"), literatim ("letter for letter") and gradatim ("step by step")..

A wonderful word to describe all of the Bills that Kerry voted "no" on, as well as describing all of the no's that I have been saying lately to my puppy, Shadow and the sneezes that I have been experiencing this am!

That's a pretty good repetoire.

I don't make spicy tamales because of Jax - I rely on my homemade sauce for that aspect!!!

I usually do chicken and cheese, but this time I tried pork and cheese instead.

They're time consuming to make - so I always make a lot and freeze what we don't eat.

he likes margaritas, maybe bc of the salt? he doesn't drink any other hard liquor. it is just beer or a margarita once in awhile. the waiter kept pressing me to have a margarita there and i said no. i had gone there with a friend of mine once for my bday and had one and it was way too strong, i couldn't even finish it. i am very much a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. but like i told you last Tuesday PM, i would have been doing shots of something on election night wtih all the stress i was feeling, if i had anything in the house!

There is rarely anything other than beer or wine in our house. Though I do need to pick up a bottle of vodka this weekend to make my annual batch of home made Kaluha.

Well, I didn't get the job I bid this morning, but after listening closer to the customer, I'm rather glad, even if I do need the money badly-I would not have made a dime off that job, and the woman would have nickled-and-dimed me to death the whole time I was working on her house. Some customers are better not to have. And she was a Kerry voter, too.

On Monday, the wind conditions produced lots of whispy high level clouds and blew the contrails from passing planes into really weird shapes-some looked like fingers extending toward earth, even. Well, one of hubby's clients made a special trip to his office to tell him that the aliens were really going balls to the wall on the mind control today-just look at those contrails! He went on so that hubby said he was hard pressed not to laugh-he did ask him with a straight face if he had a tinfoil hat, and the client said of course-he left it in the car, because he knew he was safe from the mind rays inside the building...

Liberal Cruise Special

We at Carnival Cruise Lines didn't forget that a lot of entertainers had promised to leave the country if George W. Bush were to be reelected President.

With that in mind, we have a Special Offer for those who still want to keep their promise!

Attention: Would Alec Baldwin, Rosie O' Donnell and her wife, Ed Asner, Janeane Garafalo, Whoppi Goldberg, Al Franken, Michael Moore, Cher, Phil Donahue, Rob Reiner (apparently still a "meathead"), Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda, Pierre Salinger, as well as the entire staffs of the CNN, LA and NY Times and anyone else who made that promise, please dispose of all US assets and report to Florida for the sailing of the Fun Ship Cruise, "Elation," which has been commissioned to take you to your new vacation homes in Afghanistan.

You may opt to be dropped off in Somalia or Iraq.

The Florida Supreme Court will sponsor a Farewell Parade in your honor through Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties prior to your cruise.

Please pack for an extended stay... at least four more years.

Note: Since you advocate strict gun control, you may not bring any.

Staffing your voyage is Bill Clinton as captain, Al Gore as cruise director, Grey Davis as Purser, Terry Heinz Kerry hopefully will be kept somewhere below decks away from the media.

Monica Lewinsky as the "Cigar and Cigarette Girl".

Entertainment will be provided by the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen. John Kerry will be your Life Guard in consideration of his past experience in pulling people out of the water (unless he decides at the last minute not to go). He is advocating the elimination of the game "shuffleboard" in favor of his new game he calls "waffle board". Be sure to pack your flip flops as you will need them while playing!

Ted Kennedy will double as Bartender and Director of Emergency Procedures.

Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson will provide inspirational services, and Ex-Congressman Gary Condit as intern coordinator.

If you have any questions about making arrangements for your homes, friends, and loved ones, please direct your comments to Senator Hillary Clinton. Her village can raise your children while you're gone, and she can watch over all your money and your furnishings until you return.

As they say in France..."Bon Voyage!"

I saw this huge huge shape in the sky on Sunday driving home from Lubbock - the wispy clouds looked kind of like angel wings - then I turned my head to see more of the shape and I swear it looked like a huge angel was flying out to the side of our car......I was mesmerized.......it was just beautiful
