Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 10, 2004

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

seriatim \sir-ee-AY-tim\, adverb, adjective:

1. In a series; one after another.

"Two days from the opening of the impeachment debate, gangs of television crews moved through mostly deserted corridors, doling out their 15 minutes of fame seriatim as individual lawmakers stepped up to batteries of microphones."
--The New York Times, December 16, 1998

Etymology: From Latin series, meaning "row, chain," and is formed on the same model as verbatim ("word for word"), literatim ("letter for letter") and gradatim ("step by step")..

The funny thing is, his schtick is so obvious, it is laughable that so many are blind to it.

The Marines are 200 years older than the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald.

"The funny thing is, his schtick is so obvious, it is laughable that so many are blind to it."

Hobbes, the "Harvardheads" and the east coast intelligentsia don't see through it. I have told several of my friends that Moore doesn't even believe the left wing venom he spews. I do think it is possible that some day (after he has accumulated about 100 million), he will announce to the world that he is a moderate, and was merely picking the pockets of left wingers with too much time and money on their hands!!

No, unlike David Brock who gained attention by coming out, as it were, Moore likes the spotlight far too much, and will never give it up, .... eventually the inherent contradiction will soak in, and he will end up a doddering old fool like Walter Cronkite.

The sad thing 'bout Marine b-day day: it reminds me it's the aniversery of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. But, on the MArine thread, I did read this cool quote that you may already be aware of, Whyisa...

"There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion."

Hahaha! You would think that by moving all the way to the middle of nowhere there would be fewer chances of encountering neighbors from hell-but noooo-instead, we have one right next door and another one 1/4 mile up the road...
