~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVI~
November 6, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Lurid Sunset

At long last Sunset held its lurid pose,
Of lowred glimpses, absent clothes,
Except for certain fleeting shrouds,
The tattered remnants of her clouds.

In beckoning me to follow her,
Toward the dark, my instincts were,
Alarmed at first that dimming light,
Could only mean an empty night.

And yet the warmth betoked a bed,
Of comfort for a weary head,
And one more day that could be thanked,
For mental treasures I had banked.

To: bentfeather; Robert A. Cook, PE

That one came together fairly quickly.

The Word today is Lurid, so I wanted to give it a little usage other than the expected responses.

Robert A. Cook, PE supplied the alternate spelling for lowered.

Notice also I like to resurrect words from the Elder Wordsmiths, (like betoked).

I like using old words, too, you may have noticed that.

I love the idea of honoring people with the old words of respect as thee and thou.

Reposting for LunaRed, at her request.

NIGHT

The night gathered round and brought along sound;
And the day surrendered to the dark mysterious wastes.

Thank You, LunaRed, lovely poem.

L0L you have a great Christmas!

Other great Waterboys tunes are, "This is the Sea" "Room to Roam" "The Ladder" "The Stolen Child" "A Man is in Love" "The Raggle Taggle" "Has anybody here seen Hank?" "How long will I Love You?"

Have fun L0L

"Whole of the Moon" from the CD "This is the Sea"

I pictured a rainbow
you held it in your hands
I had flashed
but you saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
while you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
you saw the Whole of the Moon

you were there in the turn stiles
with the wind at your heels
you stretched for the stars
and you know how it feels to reach
too HIGH too FAR too SOON
you saw the Whole of the Moon

I was grounded
while you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth you cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
you saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
you saw the Whole of the Moon

I spoke about wings
you just flew
I wondered I guessed and I tried
you just know
I sighed
... but you SWOONED!
I saw the crescent
you saw the Whole of the Moon

the whole of the moon!
unicorns and cannonballs
palaces and piers
trumpets towers and tenements
wide oceans full of tears
flags rags ferryboats
scimitars and scarves
every precious dream and vision
underneath the starts
you climbed on the ladder
with the wind in your sails
you came like a comet
blazing your trail
too HIGH too FAR too SOON
you saw the Whole of the Moon
