~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XVI~
November 6, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Who said? "To know is nothing at all;
to imagine is everything."

also quoted: It is by acts and not by ideas
that people live.

Daddy What If

Daddy, what if the sun stopped shining?
What would happen then?

If the sun stopped shining,
you'd be so surprised
You'd stare at the heavens
with wide open eyes,
And the wind would carry
your light to the skies
And the sun would start shining again.

But, Daddy, what if the wind stopped blowing?
What would happen then?

If the wind stopped blowing,
then the land would be dry,
And your boat wouldn't sail and,
son, your kite couldn't fly,
And the grass would see your trouble
and she'd tell the wind,
And the wind would start blowing again.

But, Daddy, what if the grass stopped growing?
What would happen then?

Well, if the grass stopped growing
you'd probably cry,
And the ground would be watered
by the tears from your eyes,
And like your love for me,
that grass would grow so high.
Yes, the grass would start growing again.

But, Daddy, what if I stopped loving you?
What would happen then?

If you stopped loving me,
then the grass would stop growing,
The sun would stop shining
and the wind would stop blowing.
So you see, if you wanna keep
this old world a'going,
You'd better start loving me again, again...
You better start loving me again.
You hear me, Bobby?

You better start loving me again.
(You love me, Bobby? Yes)
You better start loving me again.

1973 brought Bobby Bare and Bobby Bare, Jr. together for this poignant reminder, written by Shel Siverstein, that LOVE is everything.

Rain

rain gently falling...
umbrellas sprout like flowers...
keeping people dry...
flowers with upturned faces
receiving rain's gentle touch.

Good morning, bentfeather!
I sit here at home
on office seat filled with foam.
Trying real hard to not get sleepy
My eardrums are sounding rather creepy.

A sizzlin' poppin' itchy drum
Think Tulsa is a good place to be from?
Oil and cattle, gentle breeze,
Pardon moi I feel a sneeze

Never mind it went away.
Stanley Steemer in the driveway
Come to clean some catty messes.
I am not dressed for successes

The guy is gonna want 70 dollar
'Bout time for me to begin to holler.
Think I'll let him in and then run
and go and lay out in the sun.

Ain't no way that I'd get blistered
unless I start hearing Twisted Sister
then my ears would fall off
and I wouldn't hear it.
Find oxycotin and I won't fear it.

How do I end this crazy drival?
That office chair?
It squeeks when I swival.

Morning uncle!!

LOL

Oh my, my coffee has not kicked in yet!!

It's snowing gently in the Lair
tis the hostess has no care
of winter's harshness as I stay
by my mantle all the day....

My trees are brightly light
on my block I am a hit
three tiny Christmas trees
grace my home ...it's as I please!

The manse is quiet on this day
many others have gone away
to families living far away
I love the quiet ....it's my way.

FIRST CORINTHIANS 13 CHRISTMAS VERSION
AUTHOR UNKNOWN

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows,
strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls,
but do not show love to my family,
I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen,
baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
preparing gourmet meals
and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime:
but do not show love to my family,
I'm just another cook.

If I work at a soup kitchen
carol in the nursing home,
and give all that I have to charity;
but do not show love to my family,
it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels
and crocheted snowflakes,
attend a myriad of holiday parties
and sing in the choir's cantata
but do not focus on Christ,
I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the spouse.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love does not envy another's home
that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love does not yell at the kids to get out of the way,
but is thankful they are there to be in the way.

Love does not give only to those who are able to give in return;
but rejoices in giving to those who cannot.

Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things, and
endures all things.
Love never fails.

Video games will break,
pearl necklaces will be lost,
golf clubs will rust;
but giving the gift of love will endure.

Wishing you a joyous & meaningful Christmas!
