What got me to be a scarf user was the white silk scarf my dad got me a long time back. Who can say WW1 flying aces looked girly? Eh?
It is not real silk I think. It is just 100% polyester in a thin tight weave. one flat lay and a hem around the edge. Nothing much to it except the 'Link' logo from a government contractor. I keep it in my leather flying jacket. I also have a wool one that I think I got from my grandmother a few Christmases back. Together the are invaluable for sledding expeditions. The wool one is a dark brown on a lighter brown pattern that could never be called girly.

*sigh*

My brothers have always had very firm and not very logical ideas on what is or is not girly.

For awhile I remember several of them wouldn't wear red - and certainly nothing with purple in it at all, even if it was just as part of a plaid pattern. This was when they were four and six, I think. And no amount of arguing on Mom or Dad's part did any good.

Christmas before last, the Guild adopted the pilots on an aircraft carrier that was stationed in the Persian Gulf area. I think it was the Teddy Roosevelt. I made almost a dozen silky scarves for the fliers, and some stockings to put them in! That was fun cause I got some obviously feminine fabrics, but got some foulards and small paisleys which were very masculine.
