Water ran into this hole for a good five minutes with the hose on full bore. We dug around a little, but couldn't figure where the water was going. Then, either we filled it up or we plugged it, and the water started draining down the trench again.
Mole tunnel? Haven't really had moles there and it's kinda deep for a mole... Where'd the water go?

Evening Hair - guessing an old critter hole, depending on what you have up there. Tunnels can be extensive and if the ditch either intercepted it or you just uncovered an old entrance or ventilation hole, you could lose a lot of water in it before it fills up.
