The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know that other thread...

It's a train wreck. I can't stop watching.

Great tree!! We'll put ours up the weekend after the two older boys get home; the 18th-19th. We like to leave ours up through Epiphany, so we don't want to put it up too early. We got an artificial tree about 9 years ago and we love it! When we remodel and have the new tall ceilinged family room, I'm getting a 9' tree! Woo Hoo! I'm going to put the lights and ornaments on it, and when Christmas is done, we'll remove the ornaments, leave the lights, and just take the tree down to the basement still assembled! I'll cover it with a big piece of plastic and not have to re-assemble it every year!

I think he just thought our kids were cute and cut us a break.

Well, they are the cutest kids in MO!
'Grandmaneighbor', I love it! It's great your kids have some older folks with whom to spend time.

My mom always wants an artificial tree, but we veto her. It wouldn't look right in a log home.

I just hope we can find a good one when I get home! They're waiting, but I'm not sure how many good big trees will be leftover by that weekend - same one as your boys.

My wife raises that possibility periodically as well. My kids count on me to stand like a rock on that one.

Your parents live in a log cabin?

"Cabin" is possibly a bad description. "Log home" is less likely to convey the incorrect impression of hovel-like surroundings.

It's just a big house made of logs. Very pretty.

Wow; how cool is that? Love those. That might *just* satisfy my love for rustic, wood decor.

Ours is split-logs. The outside half are cedar, and the inside half are white pine. There's insulation in between. Very modern yet rustic... we have a cathedral ceiling in the living room.

My parents were always going to have a log home built, but then ten years ago they found this one just standing empty - the owners got moved for business - and it was perfect for us.

Oh, something I did notice about the Army Navy game...the commercials were decent! Nothing stupid or tasteless! I was pretty amazed.

I was in a meeting...now it's gone on so long I'm probably hopelessly behind.

Maybe that's a good thing.

I think you'd be surprised just how nice they look. When all the lights and ornaments are on it, you cannot tell it's a fake! Hang a couple of balsalm or pine scented ornaments on it and you'll even get the lovely smell of Christmas, too!

Speaking of wreaths...well, sorta...

My s-i-l brought us the neatest gadget that she picked up at the dollar store. It's a magnet wreath holder for a glass storm door.

We had the wreath on the inside on the regular door and between the glass. But this puts it right outside on the glass, with no unsightly wires or lines.

It's vey cool...

Nifty!

I've got a HUGH lavendar bush...I'm thinking of trimming some of the boughs off it and making a Christmas spray of some sort and putting it up here in the house somewhere...it would make the house smell lovely!
