The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Naww...it's the first time they've been here.

Looks like I need to replace the water hookup thingies....they leak.

OT - it's a good idea to replace them anyway. However, you might get by temporarily by putting in new gaskets aka washers. Dang it's a beautiful day out there.

I'll see what I can do. The plan now is to keep the water off until I use the washer and catch the drippings in a tub. I need to get another wrench that's big enough to fit around it...and I'll need some WD-40.

Bigger Wrench, yup, always a good idea. Just like a Bigger Hammer. Usually works. Channel Locks are real handy for stuff like that.

WD-40 and Duct Tape - great inventions.

bbl, time to fling some arrows.

Agreed.

If it's in too few pieces, spray 'em with WD-40.

If it's in too many pieces, get the duct tape.

I got the duct tape. Had to donate muh WD-40 to my sister since the movers wouldn't move pressurized flammable stuff.

Yup, heard one similar, maybe here.

If it moves and it shouldn't Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and it should WD 40

That's a woo-hoo all right. I've got to do laundry this weekend but I don't know when - today is dedicated to brief Christmas shopping and then working on programming at someone else's house. Tomorrow, church and more group programming.

Two weeks from now I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Only a couple more weeks in our semester, too. And my class is only a one semester class...so soon I'll be sorta free in the evenings.

Except...Tuesday is also my music night and Thursday is the night Bilbo picked for the Irish session. So...not really.

Did kinda sorta some Christmas shopping. Got Bilbo a sweater at the thrift store. I may go to Wal-Mart all on my lonesome at eight or so tonight when it won't be crazy, but I dunno.

And I should be writing, but I'm getting frustrated again. Up and down I go! ;-) I know what needs to be said, but when I can sum it up in fifty words but find it looks like it'll take more like fifty thousand (well...not really, but could be fifteen or twenty thousand), it's hard to be patient.

Make it a two-parter and give her the sequel later! I know I said this before, but it really might be a good solution.

Next week is the last week of classes, so we have about a hundred things due then. And then finals week. Which won't be fun. Oh well.

If it comes down to it, I will just give her as much as I have...I just hate to do that as if I don't finish it NOW, I likely never will. You know how that is...

We're already having students come to us with end-of-the-semester assignments that they saved ONLY on one floppy that has now gone bad. We try and try to teach 'em, but...

Idjits. Who even uses a floppy these days? Get with the times...

And if you insist on using 'em even though we're phasing them out in the labs, at least realize they wear out, get corrupted, and otherwise have trouble - and back up your files!

Yup, couldn't agree more. Of course here, we have a professor who doesn't "get" that.... uses floppies for her tests, and gets mad at us when they get corrupted.

The really dumb thing is that all students have server space they can use - even from the residence halls. The off-campus ones can't use that, but there's NO reason for on campus students to be using floppies, IMO.

And we have CD burners in many labs, too! Plus they can use pen drives.

*shakes head*

I just don't get it.
