Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Perhaps I'm low on blood to the brain?
LOL!
OK, I'm back now.
The story...what there is, anyway, is this...though really, it happened so fast I don't know what all happened.
I was driving along the back road just before the college here (it's the quickest way, and unless the weather is really, really crappy, that's the way I come), and though it's snowing hard, it wasn't bad at all. And then all of a sudden I COMPLETELY lost control - I mean COMPLETELY. Correcting did nothing at all. I'm lucky I wasn't going very fast, Or I would have flipped over for sure and this wouldn't have a happy ending. I'm also lucky no one was coming the other way - ditto.
I spun completely around - this all seems surreal now, like I wasn't even there. I remember being almost amazed that the person on the radio kept talking calmly as if nothing was happening. And then I ended up across the road, almost facing back the other way, and in the bushes. No ditch there, fortunately!
I didn't get out at all (duh) because at the moment all I was thinking about was getting back on the road. So I didn't check for damage or anything. As the guys here said, "typical chick". OK, I admit it! I'm an idiot! ;-)
But I was able to back onto the road and continue to work, though (confusingly enough to me), the car continued to act out of control. Even though I was crawling along, it was pulling in all directions and just NOT steering right. When I got into the parking lot here, I looked around at it and the only damage I found was that one of the back tires was completely off the rim. Not good.
I came in and told people and got help - at that point everyone was assuring me that most likely the rim and or the tire would have been destroyed by my driving even the half mile or so that I drove, and I was near tears - there ain't money in the bank for that right now. But when we all went out and looked at it, it didn't look too bad.
So...we called maintenance, and they said if we could get the wheel off and bring it and the tire up, they'd see if they could put it back on, and check for damage. It took FOREVER for us to do it, meanwhile it's snowing HARD and most of us don't have gloves (duh...), but we did finally. And there's no damage! I'm soooo pleased! Of course, there could still be something that wasn't visible, I suppose...but be praying about that, please?
What some have said (and I think they may be right) is that possibly the tire coming loose was the reason the car went out of control in the first place, rather than the result of the accident. There are some HUGH potholes on that road, and it's possible one of them popped the tire, I suppose. I know I've NEVER had my car act like that, even though I've driven in snow and ice plenty of times. It was very, very scary!
But all's well that ends well! Whew! And I owe lunches to at least a few folks...
Oh my goodness, Rosie! Thank goodness it doesn't seem like too much damage!
1. You're not an idiot.
2. I'm glad you're okay.
3. You're not an idiot.
Okay, yes you should've gotten out to take a look. But anybody who has been in an accident (and, yes I speak from experience) knows you aren't always thinking clearly just after it happens.
You were distracted. You were nervous.
But you're not an idiot.
Wow....
Hope it was just the seal and everything is still straight and can hold air now.
My little Bronco was nutty to drive when it was in 2Xdrive. It was so short and had so much torque it would flip directions on me like that on the first ice, without me doing anything. Snap. Just like that I was turned around headed the opposite direction. It was great in 4X4.
Yeah - what's idiotic? If you would have gotten out to look you'd still be sitting on the side of the road in the snow with a big problem, paying a lot of money to have someone tow it and fix it.
As it sits now, you are warm, at work, your car is being fixed and you just owe some folks a favor so far.
Dad says I shouldn't drive on that road in the winter, and he's probably right. It's ALWAYS full of rocks and potholes...he thinks that's probably where my windshield first got cracked, and he's probably right.
I guess shortcuts aren't always worth it! Better start getting up a little earlier...
Yeah...I was NOT thinking clearly! Especially as that has never happened before. I was just in shock.
I like the way you think!
*smiles*
Thanks be to God that you are all right! I had a near collision not too long ago myself, and can appreciate how you feel! I kept telling my daughter, who was with me, "say thank you to God with me!"
((((Rosie)))) Glad you are fine.
Good morning! It's Friday, and it is my son's 3rd Birthday, we'll be going out soon to do something fun! I have rehearsal tonight, so I will have to miss the cake :-(
It's back on the vehicle now...so if it's not flat when I go check on it later (and the maintenance guy didn't think it had any problems at all), I'm gold!
Happy birthday to your son!
I forget...what do you have rehearsal for?
'Round here...we also have to watch out for ninja black-ice.
Tricksy ninjas....
A Church production of A Christmas Carol. I am the Assistant Director, which just means "gofor with title" ;-)
Um...party of people, I mean.
Jr. and I were in a major accident on his 7th birthday. My Honda Civic was broadsided by a maintenance truck. But the accident was my fault.
God protected us and particularly Jr. because he had his new Star Wars Light Saber with him. I told him, "if you want to take that, you have to ride in the back seat."
If he had been in the front seat he would have been killed. But neither of us was seriously injured. I had some stitches and sprained my knee (the one that still gives me trouble).
Wife was out of town. I spent the next five hours in the ER going back and forth between thinking how stupid I was and how good God is.
