The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Subtle, yet sweet. Charming, yet more to it than just tugging at the heartstrings. And pretty animation.

gah! you don't ask for much do you? I find ones that fit that bill few and far between. I have not seen much like that in the recent fansubs... but I might have missed one. There are so many and I have slacked off keeping up with them all. Hence the ones I am going to list are all released. But damn it, bootleg them if you have to because they are worth it. Hana Yuri Dango! Also called Boy's Over Flowers (gag! some pun titles don't translate). It is out on DVD (er... some of it...). If you have not seen it yet you are missing Fruits Basket level goodness (well close anyway). If I was going to list my other favorite romance shows dis regarding 'shojo' and 'pretty' as key I would add Maison Ikkoku and Crest of the Stars. Maison is Rominko Takashi art so I like it even if it is not 'Clamp pretty' so to speak. Oops, brother called and interrupted the train of thought.

I just like the old cartoon Grinch better...and this old Rudolph. They came out with a new Rudolph a few years back too and it was STOO-PIUD.

Instead of being creative, they try to be cutsie and funny and just come across as morons.

The jedis are in bed...listening to an Adventures in Odyssey radio show...the newest one. The lady at our church library orders them almost as soon as they come out because she knows how much the boys loves them!

I don't have a book right now to read to them...so they listen to this instead. I have literally TONS of MP3 radio shows too, from the 30s-60s!

You got to love all those classic shows. They don't make them like they use to. Heck they hardly make them at all.

That's sweet.... at church, I was always the kid who thought the "Adventures in Odyssey" stories were kind of boring, and preachy, but then I was a weird kid. I admit they have a lot of value, but I don't like the format, I guess. Radio drama does nothing for me.

But it's great your boys love 'em!

Nothing like radio drama or 'books on tape' for long car rides.

Heh, I knew that description was asking for it... "Maison Ikkoku" put me to sleep the time I tried to read the manga. "Crest of the Stars" is on my list of "see-sometime" but I thought it was Shonen... Boys Over Flowers sounded suspiciously yaoi but I'm glad I'm wrong. Will check it out...

It's not so much romance I want as... focusing on people and relationships between them, rather than action. I love action but you've got to have a balance, ne?

"Who knows what eeeeevil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows..."

Heh...we did listen to light stuff, too...but I can remember liking that show. Kinda psychological mystery stuff, as I recall.

And with that...I'm off to bed. Going to write just a wee bit and then sleep...maybe I'll wake up with less of a cold! I hope!

Actually, I'm kind of amazed myself! I got the AIO tapes on a whim years ago and couldn't believe it when Matthew liked them! Joshua's listened to them since he was literally an infant...he'd go to sleep during them though. Now, I can hear him in there laughing and he tells me about the plot the next day!

I think it has to do with them laying in there in the dark listening and picturing it!

Heh... I think my problem was that Mom read aloud to us since I was little, so yeah, I can picture stories, but I see them as narratives rather than dramas. I pick up more from the hinted-at subtext, than the raising of a voice or the careful ordering of a phrase.

In the same way, I prefer novels to television or movies... the pictures are better in my head...

True, true. You might try Touch if you have not already. It is a digital fansub. It you read the premise it sounds like a sports anime but that really is not the focus

The MANGA put you to sleep? I usually recommend the manga because for people that think the anime is to slow. I love that show. It moves slow but is well worth it.

Well, the art was so unappealing... and I couldn't connect to any of the characters. For that minimalist style of art, you really need a wacky story with identifiable characters. That's why it more or less worked with "Ramna".

Maybe the anime would appeal more. Voices and stuff might make the characters - or not.
