Well, the art was so unappealing... and I couldn't connect to any of the characters. For that minimalist style of art, you really need a wacky story with identifiable characters. That's why it more or less worked with "Ramna".
Maybe the anime would appeal more. Voices and stuff might make the characters - or not.

Well it helps that I liked the music and voices of the anime and saw that first. Also the main character being a male college age slacker trying to find out how he wants to live his life made connecting easy for me.
I like a minimalist styles a lot. Maison is one of only a handful of anime I can point to that have no supernatural strangeness or scifi factors. It is just normal life. The art is not aver the top and I like that in some series. I like a wide variety of art styles. I buy manga because I like to see what an artist can do with just black ink. I use to do line art illustrations for our publishing company and I have a fondness for the simplicity of it.
