The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh! It's probably wise counsel.

I have a 1987 bottle of Le Sable Cabernet Sauvignon in the back of my cabinet. I keep it because it says it is a product of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia as it was in 1987 doesn't exist anymore!

it's from the Primorski Region...whatever that means.

heh! Found this on the internet...Maybe 1987 was a better year?

"Cabernet Sauvignon Primorski 1986

Tanky, dirty and gamy. A flawed wine that's best avoided. "

I'd check to make sure it's still good - yes, wines get better with age, but they can sometimes get... nasty. Don't just go opening it. Don't drink your keepsake!

A little wine is good for the stomach, you know. Biblical, that is.

Anyway, I'm Presbyterian, not Baptist. We consider drinking in moderation a matter of indifference. ;-p

I think it's likely toxic by now...can't even find info on the winery.

'sides, aren't you supposed to lay it on it's side...keep the cork moist? It's been upright for probably a decade.

What scale is Dad's train?

It's "O" gauge.

It's not storming at the moment...but the wind out there is something else. Keeps starting the dogs barking, 'cause they apparently think we're being invaded or something.

He needs trees.... I find some online but I can't tell if they look good or not. Might have to go look at them in person.

He needs a bigger table, but I wonder if he can do this: Graduated Trestle Set - Lionel® Train Shop

Oh, wind, huh... it's gotten bad here, but the lines seem to be underground, so we're ok.

Thanks for the info. Some tree hugging types were crying over this and I was able to set them straight. (not that that helps them, but it does shut them up for a while)

We lose power if anyone sneezes hard.

Well...not quite, but almost.

Actually that's more true in the town where I work than it is here. It takes a pretty good storm for us to lose it.

But there...sometimes we'll lose it on a clear, windless day, for no apparent reason at all. And it'll take forever to come back. It's frustrating sometimes.

Anime! Woot!

I have an episode of "Amazing Race". It goes on as soon as Hugh Hewitt's over - I love his show. He's much better than a blowhard like Hannity.

I might have to take tomorrow off work to write this paper. Just so I don't get stuck doing something stupid like pulling an all-nighter tomorrow night or finishing it up at work on friday.
