The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's not too late to start homeschooling. It's probably just right because middle school is when kids get bored and get into mischief and don't learn as well as they could. If you want some oversight into what you're doing, look into Clonlara. They may let you do your own curriculum, but oversee the work for grading, etc. Oak Meadow is another group, like Calvert that has it's own books, etc, and you send the work and tests in to be graded. Unlike Calvert, I think it is a secular program.

I just didn't realize that was him.

Clare and I didn't either, until we were watching the credits and saw his name. We had to go back to the beginning of the movie to watch for him. When we realized who we was we just howled laughing!

He was in the Steve Irwin movie, too.

Not that that makes the movie worth watching...quite. But I admit it's WHY I agreed to watch it the time I did...

Is this our FOURTH Christmas holiday in the Hole?

Not quite. I just checked. The New Zealander thread started in January '02.

He didn't make that movie worth watching. But he made that movie a little less painful, anyway...

Yep.

Which says more about the movie than it does about him, I think! ;-)

But with as many younger siblings as I have, all of whom are big fans of his TV show (though they've only seen it on video), we just HAD to watch the movie.

I actually kinda like the show in small doses...but the movie was embarrassing.

The show's ok. In small doses. Let's not talk about the movie.

I'm torn. On the one hand, the winter wonderland outside is beautiful. On the other hand, the roads are ice rinks, the temperature won't approach freezing, and I have to walk a quarter-mile with no shelter from the wind to class in a bit... do I like snow, or not?

Ahhh...

Three winter seasons together.

Where's OT? Still on vacation?

Lunchtime!

Gee, I wish I'd cooked last night. I'd rather have leftovers than tuna salad.

I'm thankful that tuna salad exists, though, for the times I forget to plan ahead.

What's a good name for a young goblin - a nicer sort of goblin than Tolkien types?

Squabble. Or Lutefisk. A real word that sounds kind of silly. Origami.

Hi,2J! It has been lightly snowing here all morning, but it is not sticking to the roads, thank goodness. We only have about an inch and the weathermen said the snow should end shortly.

Oh, wait...my car doesn't work...

Well, it's the thought that counts, right? LOL

I think that's how she got a lot of words and names... but "squib" is singularly appropriate, don't you think?

Yep.

I keep forgetting that I'm allowed to make up words for my own stories.

Very nifty, that.
