The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

He even does the noble lines everyone wanted from him about how he would never take the ring, not if he found it on the road, not even with sugar on top.

Would he take it in a house?
Would he take it with a mouse?

See, that's what Frodo should have said in Rivendell... "I will not take it here or there, I will not take it anywhere" - get someone else to take the stupid thing to Mordor.

MOON LETTERS : TOOKISH TICKLERS
Dr. Seuss' LotR - by Blue Wizard

The day when Bilbo left his ring
I did not want to dance or sing
I did not want his ring at all
I did not want it in my hall
I did not want it in my pocket
I did not want it in a locket
I did not want it on a chain
Having it was quite a pain.

I asked Gandalf to throw it out
But he said "No" with a great shout
"We must destroy it in the fire
although the way is dark and dire."

"We have to walk to Orodruin
Through smoke and fire and wreck and ruin
We have to find the Cracks of Doom
We have to find them very soon."

And so I hiked to Rivendell
With Sam-I-Am and friends as well
We met some elves along the way
Who said "The Shire's no place to stay"

We hiked through hills that were so hilly
We met old Tom whose songs were silly
He saved us from a hungry tree
And sent us on our way to Bree

In Bree we finally met with Strider
Who saved us from the threats of Riders
We crept from there to Elrond's houses
As quiet as five little mouses.

Though we'd prefer to visit taverns
We headed South to Durin's caverns
Orcs were there, and nasty things
(I'm still not sure if one had wings)

We found the door, and through it fit
But Gandalf fell into a pit
We ran to daylight, ran so fast
Until we met some elves at last.

They said "Your trip is not complete.
And so to spare your tired feet.
We suggest that you try floating.
It's much less tiring to go boating."

And so with paddles in our hands
we floated South to foreign lands.
But Boromir, he tried to steal
my precious ring - the rotten heel.

I went to Mordor with no friends
While Boromir, to make amends
Died while fighting orcs so numerous
I will not try to make this humorous.

But, much to my delight and glee
Sam-I-Am had followed me
But so had Gollum, as we found
once we got to solid ground.

We walked on logs
We walked through bogs
We walked in fens
and wooded glens.

We walked until at last we came
To a high pass with a bad name
We did not know that deep inside
A monstrous spider tried to hide.

But we escaped, as you have guessed
Though Gollum was an awful pest
At last we came to Orodruin
With Cracks of Doom amid its ruin.

And when at last it was my job
To take the ring and gently lob
it down into the Cracks of Doom
I quickly looked around the room

I said "I really like this ring.
I like it more than anything.
I will not throw it in this pit
Though Gandalf throws a hissy-fit."

But I did notice Gollum linger
He bit off my own ring finger
He took my ring and then stepped back
right into the flaming crack.

So I went to my home to rest
until I tire of the West
And though they think that I'm the hero
Sometimes I think "I'm just a zero."

I did not want that ring of gold
I did not want it - I'm not bold
I'm just a hobbit, as you see
Who'd never ventured East of Bree.

Ahhhhh - right.

I am seconding the person who answered...

Not the person who didn't answer. Because that would just not be answering!

I'm enjoying low fat refried bean and cheese tacos with habenero flakes on low-carb tortillas and a Diet Riot.

The cheese is artificial...Del Sunshine. Pretty good stuff, low saturated fat.

Diet Riot? ;-)

Seriesly, that sounds wonderful!

I'm broke...so whatever I have at home is what I'm eatin'. I SHOULD cook up some beans, though. Those are cheap! And I'd have plenty of leftovers...

Maybe with some hamburger meat, too! I don't have tortillas, though.

What's it made out of?

I like the Cabot low fat cheeses. They are often on sale here, too, since they're local! And they taste really good. In omelets, I actually prefer them because they have a great texture!

Time ta go home...

Yeah, we call it Diet Riot...Matthew got us started doing it and now that's all we call it! LOL

My mouth is on fire so now I'm eating a handful of frozen blueberries.

It's time for me to donate blood again and see what my cholesterol is...can you tell? LOL

I'm just tryin' to get back on the diet wagon. Still have about fifteen to go, though I'd settle for ten.

I've had a very hard time. I was used to being on the low carb high fat diet...had cream on my cereal, remember that? While on that diet, I rarely experienced being ravenously hungry. It was great. No peaks and valleys with my blood sugar.

Then when I went low fat, I had to increase my carbs to compensate, which threw me back into the blood sugar swings, I started having those "I'm starving!" feelings again and next thing you know, I've gained 5 pounds back.

Now, I've discovered I can make a kind of paste out of almonds and mix in some canola oil and eat it on a slice of low-carb bread. It's low carb, but high in the monounsaturated "good" fat that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I eat it as a snack and it sticks with me.
