The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm sorry Corin...

If it were me, and there were people still living that I would like to see there, then I would want to go if I could. If you wouldn't expect to know anyone there, perhaps not. But it is the people still living that would miss you, or not, at this point.

We'll be checking in from up at the beach house, when we get there ;~D

I think in this case sending flowers and sympathy might be enough. Ten hours' travel is reasonable for family or close current friends but I'm not sure you should feel obligated to go in this case.

Thanks. My home town (county actually) is small enough that I'm sure a lot of folks I know would be there. But I'm not sure I'd really get to spend time with Perry (the husband).

I did a much better job of keeping up with college contacts than high school.

Have fun at the beach house. We're about ready to start setting the table here.

Sam, glad to hear that, my fletching was delayed.

I was cubing up the lamb. The curry is bubbling away. The condiments, including mango and ginger chutney, grated cocunut, pickled watermellon, et al. await the balsamic rice. hmmmm, simply heavenly. Oh, yes, Gypsygirl was setting nearby awaiting any and all lamb cubes that 'fell' toward he. he he.

Curried lamb sounds really great!

Sometimes FR just cracks me up.

Saw this on another thread:

am doing something different this year because I cooked turkey about 10 days ago....and it lasted a week...I am all turkeyed out. We are going out for oysters & martinis....then coming home to grill porterhouse steaks. feinswinesuksass (Scream if you love silence.)

The game plan sounds great, but the screen name and tagline crack me up.

FR is great... seriesly...

Time to start making sure I've got everything together. The turkey I bought comes with a packet of gravy... I made the rolls... the pie is waiting... guess I'm good.

Ah shucks...

I am just not in the "Thanksgiving mood" this year. I decided to do something with just my man & me....and whoever is at the oyster bar. It's always tini time.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I hope you all had a great day.

We had Thanksgiving this year at our house - which was a first for us. Us, my Mom, and my Gramdma. It was a small gathering, but a lot more comfortable and relaxing than the huge gatherings we've always had.

Going to be fixin' a turkey sammich here in a short, but wanted to pop in and say that I'm thankful I had the chance to meet and befriend all of you over these last two years.

God Bless you all.

Joe

Or...even better, get one of those ones that clamp onto a table and slice and pare at the same time!

King Arthur flour has those, too! They work great!

Happy Thanksgiving!! Got any turkeys strutting around your back yard? The kids and I were driving down Rt. 9 yesterday; it's a major highway going through MA, and there was a turkey standing on the corner of Rt. 9 and one of the side streets! It was just standing there like it was waiting for the light to change! We laughed out loud looking at it!

With all your family has been through this year, Corin, I'd vote for you to stay home with YOUR family and enjoy the day. You could call your friend's husband, if you'd like, or maybe just wait until next week when he'd be more in a frame of mind to receive calls. Send flowers and let him know you'll be calling him.

That's just MHO, of course.
