Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sorry for that... there was this very nice french girl sitting here for a bit. She's from the Alsace-Lorraine and was very curious about what was going on with me chatting on the Internet.
I explained the thread (more or less) and that I was chatting with some friends... and she wanted to reply. :-)
That wasn't me. It was her. My french was too many years ago to be useful. But she's gone now. :-)

I think there was a case of beer involved too. Yes, there was that.

Thanks, HairOfTheDog.
HairOfTheDog????? Is this some idiomatic term or an "Americanism?"
Anyway, I like the nick.

Take a Hair of the Dog that Bit You. |
|
After a debauch, take a little wine the next day. Take a cool draught of ale in the morning, after a nights excess. The advice was given literally in ancient times, If a dog bites you, put a hair of the dog into the wound, on the homopathic principle of Similia similibus curantur (like cures like). ~Dictionary of Phrase & Fable

Ok, then, let me try my hand at translation!
Au contraire...pecher c'est fantastique, j'adore ca et je trouve que tu n'est pas tres ouverte d'esprit pour penser cela, est ce gue moi je te dis que faire les boutiques c'est nul ?
Negative. Fish are wonderful. I love trout with three eggs and spirits poured (thoughtful something?). It's war and very fair to shop for nothing?

I believe it has some thing to do with the spiritual connection of fishermen to their world, as compared to the connection of one who loves shopping to the shopping mall.
Something like that. :-) Beats me... it's french. and... you know how they get when you ask them to explain what the heck they mean...

Thank you. Love that link.
Except, though, you can't solve a problem with the same mind that created it.

Darn it, so my translation was more accurate than I thought. I got "fishing" and something about shops. Darn romance languages, all the roots are the same!

I'm learning French on my own, as I go along. I think the above means: "It's that I have already told you that I'd rather go shopping than do nothing."
How am I doing? I can't speak or write French, but do understand it, especially the written form.
I know a little of a few languages, but, unfortunately none of them well. Que vas a hacer?

No, I haven't. I'm getting older, poorer and old-fashioned.
Sorry to disappoint you.
